pls excuse if it's the wrong thread...

Ok peeps... what's your secret... if you have over 2500 users and conisistently have over 150 active users... HOW ARE YOU PAYING FOR YOUR SERVERS>>>>

Pls share your secrets... where is the majority of your revenue coming and what host are you using that is giving you all this bandwidth... my site traffic isn't there yet (only 1600 users and 100 users online)... but I am preparing for the future...

I'm on Nocster with a P4 box... but I am just concerned that my current bandwidth limits will be exceeded and I have to pay for overage...

lemme know... and I'm sure others are wondering... or juss PM me if you don't want to publicize your info...

Thanx in advance...

At 100 users online at once, you definitely have a decent amount of traffic. We currently are hosted with Ventures Online, with an old V650 plan, but they've been amazing. If you plan to grow, you'll want to go with a VPS account, as any of the shared accounts won't be enough for you.

I built them and host them from my home/office. The cost I have is for the t1 which I have to have for my business anyway. IMHO, best way to go is the way I go. With a high trafffic site bandwidth could cost more and in most cases does than a t1.

But ... do alot of you have a dedicated box for your MySQL as well?

That isn't the best route relibaility wise though. Your t1 provider is down - sorry no website. Majority good hosting providers are connected to many backbones.

I admin a VB forum wit 80,000 members and 500 online at about any given moment. 400 gig a month trans fer. We get about 500 bux a month per sponsor to flip the bill. That is the only way. And I mean the only way.

Thanx... Your site is in no way big enough to demand its own MySQL box IMO

Get a box from Rackshack if you know how to administer redhat linux.

You won't make much $$$ from advertisers because :

a) Most of your traffic will most likely be on the forums. Advertisers hate forums for some reason.
b) it doesn't matter how many consecutive users you have most of the visitors you have will not be "uniquely" new to your site. They will be returning visitors.

If you can't afford your own dedicated box don't do it. Scraping every penny together every month to pay for it removes ALL the fun you may gain from your site eventually and it's not worth it.

Thanx in advance... Usually anywhere between 100 and 200 people online, we push about 140 GB a month. I'm hosted with Focal Hosting, who have excellent rates - definitely check them out. They're small, but dedicated.

We're not running a dedicated DB box yet, but plan to in Q1 2003, budget permitting :)
