Hi,
I have a dedicated server hosted in the UK but I'm somewhat dissatisfied with the service.

There are 8,700 users with 270 at the busiest ever period.
www.avforums.com

The current hosts are a little company and struggle to provide good out of office hours support.

What I need is a managed server more than capable of the above forums plus about a dozen other sites with little traffic between them.

How much bandwidth do I need? I usually ask for near unlimited.

I want a mirrored 10+ gig HDD with nightly backups. Plenty of overhead in terms of CPU and memory. 24/7 support and based in the UK so I can call them cheaply when I need to.

All this for about £200 a month.

Can you recommend any company who can do anything near what I want?
TIA.

Looked at Global Gold (http://www.globalgold.co.uk/) yet?

That's who is currently hosting our server.
The server is down, now, for example (Sunday 16:00 GMT) and nobody is answering their out of office hours emergency number.
There is absolutely nothing I can do to bring the forums back up.

Pathetic.

Hi,

I think you're going to need to be a little bit more specific about your needs before anyone can really recommend or suggest anyone to you. Like how many users on average are online? How many page views per month etc.

Do you have any of the chat programs at all? ICQ, Yahoo, AIM, MSN?

Thank you,

Thanks for the reply.
We use a vanilla vbulletin with no chat.
Current stats aren't as important as what the box is capable of. I'm hoping that the number of users will steadily increase and I don't then want to have to upgrade.
I have no idea what the average number of users is. As I say the most ever was 273 but at 5 am (GMT) there'll be 10 people on there.
I want the box to be able to cater for, say, 500 users online on average and according to webtrends we currently have about 3 million impressions per month, so lets say 15 million.

I use www.escape.com

They are excellent and very reasonable. If you mention my name to them they’ll give you a great rate. I have 3 co-locations there. They have multiple T3s to their uplink. Tech support is great. Never on hold more then 2 mins.

Hosting and colos.

Good luck,

(don’t forget to mention my name. I don’t get anything from them. They’ll give you a great rate.)

I'm sure they're great but they are in America and that's no good to me, unfortunately. I need someone in the UK.
