I am currently looking for a host for a client. Both shared and dedicated options are being looked at this time, since they don't know their budget and need both approximations.
It must be:
- Apache ;) preferably on RedHat
- with PHP and mySQL :D (at least 3 dbs)
- with full cgi-bin access
- with FTP (unlimited updates)
- with shell access
- with 'easy email management' (POP3/Webmail)
- located in Western Europe, preferably Belgium
If anyone knows of a host that meets such requirements, please let me know ASAP. :)

What exactly do you mean by "located in Western Europe", the company or their servers?

Personally, I wouldn't go for a server that's located in Europe. Maybe the company located in Europe -- but not the server.
Why?
Because bandwidth is very high in Europe than compared to the US. And you'll get charged as such.
A server that costs say, $150, in the US, will cost you about $250 in Europe (in US $$ of course).
And bandwidth isn't as redundant in Europe as it is in the US.
Check over at http://www.webhostingtalk.com, and do a search and see if you can find a company that's located in W. Europe, but their servers are located in the US, you wont be disappointed, trust me.

If most of your visitors are located in Europe though, I can see why you'd want to be in Europe.

Not necessarly, only if you run game servers or such. Remember, ping times don't mean that much...

In theory, the less hops, the faster the connection

Badnwidth isn't as redundant in the UK as it is in the US? Err... sorry but that's just a right load of old crock to start with. As for bandwidth being more expensive, if you're used to Cogent prices then yes it is more expensive, but if you're used to paying normal prices for quality bandwidth in the USA then it's not really more expensive.

I pay normal price for high quality bandwidth and would choose the US 10 times over. I had the choice of 'some space' down the docks (London) and declined. The price was ridiculously high...
Techguy1: The closest decent provider for you is in Holland.

If you got a rediculous price then you weren't looking in the right place.
We pay less for a full rack in London than we do for half in Florida, as for bandwidth, well suffice to say it's better quality and similar price in the UK compared to what we pay for in the USA.

Well thanks for comments everyone, I looked into various options, discussed with the client and they agreed to have the server based in North America. I set up hosting with the same place where I host my website (shared for now, we'll see later).
