Hi,
I am starting up my own webbased online/gaming community and I am currently running phpBB. I am very impressed with the vB boards and would like to purchase myself a license, however, my dilema is; is vBulletin for me? I read in other threads in which you gave examples of big communities using vB but my community right now is quit small and very insignificant (just being launched) and I am wondering wether it is in your oppinion that it would be apropriate for me to purchase a license at this stage.

By the way, why is it that all other "Is it for me?" threads turn into flaming? Just and observation...

Sincerely

Tomaj

Well we provide PHPBB import scripts so you won't be losing anything you currently have.

Personally, I have never used phpBB more than a couple days and that was to evaluate the system which I found to be lacking. I did use UBB in the past and found vBulletin facilitated a 500% traffic increase when we switched. Now that is a big increase.

Is it for you? I am not sure it depends on how you grow and want the site to progress. Is it always going to remain small? Or will it grow and prosper. Look at the large phpBB's and their average usage. I have never seen one with more than 100 concurrent users. Now look at the largest vBulletins and their average usage. You will regularly see 400 or more users with some up to 1200 concurrent users posting 10s of thousands of messages a day.

Your needs and goals dictate what software is best for you. The software shouldn't dictate your needs and goals.
