I saw a site, that has an installation of vBulletin on their main site, and one install of vB as a backup board for their site.

Is this allowed?

Just wondering.

Thank you. :)

If they own only one license, they can only run one set of vBulletin files on their server.

To quote from the license:

If you have a valid license, you may set up an additional test forum in order to test code, template and database modifications. To make this clear to us and our license verification procedures, place it in a directory called 'testvb' and be sure to password protect it. It must not be accessible by the general public.

That's what I do, I have a testvb running on Apache on my own machine.

You can have a second installation for testing purposes provided that it's password protected through means such as .htaccess and is not accessible to the public. Otherwise you need a seperate license.

Well this site had a vBulletin on their main site, it had the "Not active" message and then they had a vBulletin on another webserver that was accessable to the public.

From what I understand, you would have to have a second license to be able to run a second vBulletin?

Yes. Even if the board is closed to new members, posts and threads, it still requires a valid license to operate.

Okay, thanks.

So if I wanted to test out how vBPortal would work on my vB, I could have vBulletin installed under directory /testvb/ and it'd be okay..?

Thank you. :)

Yup, just remember to password protect it
