OK, I am thinking about leaving Frontpage and moving on to a different design package. I realize this is somewhat off topic, but you guys must have input.
Does anyone have any preferences on design software, maybe specific to VB and Linux servers?

You can ask 10 people and get 10 answers :) Most people use the tool they feel comfortable with, there is no such 'specific' tool for a certain program or design job.
I use FrontPage 2002, HomeSite, EditPlus etc...
Why do you want to move away from FrontPage? I would try and download the most 5 popular 'packages', give them a weekend or two. Find the one that you feel most comfortable with and get it! One person's taste may be the other's *yuck*, so do please try them all out.

Well, thats a GREAT question. Not really sure if and why I need to leave.
I suppose it all boils down to the fact that everyone primarily uses Linux based servers. Yes I realize you can get NT on a limited basis. And then the reality of it is that the server folks want to blame Frontpage for everything. I suppose I am just tired of that cop out.

Believe me, frontpage extentions on a server are a real pain, from time to time they don't work correctly. :(
BTW, my preferred design package is Dreamweaver - easy to use, nice features...

FTP is the best way to upload your pages. I'm an ex-Front
Page extensions user who knows. You should also wean your-
self off of commercial editiors like FP and DW and learn to
use a straight-up text or html editor. Your code will thank you,
and you and anyone else who examines your code will do
likewise.

Dreamweaver is SO much better. Not only does it leave out all the poop code and nonsense, but it also highlights code for you (like HomeSite, only it works with other languages too like PHP) so it's easier to work. And there's the whole double pane feature, so you can code and see what it looks like in real time. Great program. I'm talking about DW MX by the way.

That's funny. I'vr had the same experiences with DW as I've
had with FP, namely, that the program inserts spaces, <p>'s,
and other keystrokes automatically that I have to edit out to make the html display what I indended. It's a royal pain, and
I've sworn off DW in favor of a plain text editor.

How about Go Live 6???

I use GoLive...I'm a mac OSX user and GoLive works great with Photoshop (where I spend the bulk of my hours!).
I hated Frontpage...but coming from a Mac user is a bit different...they stopped supporting the Mac version
