Yes, it costs $160 for one owned license.
The installation fee is completely optional.

I wouldn't say so, but we're all on different budgets.
In my experience though, well worth it.

Or you can get a 1-year license for $85 and upgrade to the full license within 30 days if you want for a lower price.

Excellent saying dude:p The $160 is a one off cost, and includes membership stuff here, which is renewable at $30 a year apparently. As filburt1 states there's a leased licence option for 1 year (we actually took that one to see how our board would go, the banging in the background is me hitting my head on my desk ... yeap $160 to pay at end of leasing agreement).
There are free board engines out there, but don't think they live up to the look and feel of vbulletin.

I recommend the $160.00 dollar license. Primarily because it is less headaches going through the renewal process of vBulletin plus the license lasts for life :)

Maybe you can clear up a point. In either case you get one years free downloads of new releases etc. If you are on the lifetime licence and pay the $30 per year thingy, does that cover down loads of new releases?

Yes, that's what the $30 are for.
If you just pay $85, you can only use your board for a year. After that, you have to take it offline. If you pay $160, you can have it forever, but you need to pay $30 annually for upgrades.

Thanks for clearing that one up. Oh well $160 for current site at end of lease agreement, and $160 for new site in Feb.:( Anyone got a spare nickel:p
