Just got word that the boys over at UBB are working on a plugin for Trillian that will allow you to read/post your favorite forums without actually going to the site(s).
Is this something we'll see for vB?

interesting. what's the point? does this turn trillian into a web browser?
i don't know if we are planning on offering this, we'll need to wait for a dev to reply.

Here's what a site that uses UBB said about it:
Those of you who frequent our forums know that we have a pretty lively bunch of folks posting. As we are a beta site for the forum software we use, one of the cool new features available to us allows us to extract forum info to use elsewhere. If you are a user of the IM client Trillian Pro, then you have access to a new feature that we are experimenting with.
With Trillian Pro and a new feature that we've implemented on the forums you can now track the latest threads directly in Trillian without having to actually go into the forums at all!
To your right is a shot of the latest forum posts at the time of this news story shown in Trillian Pro. As this feature is still in beta, we don't have a wide range of things you can track yet, but will once the UBB software is out of beta.
In the meantime, if you have Trillian Pro, and wish to make use of this feature, you need the news plugin (which comes with the software). You then need to use this link as the source for your news feed.
Check it out, and join the discussion in our forums about this new feature.
It uses a plug-in for Trillian that lets you read newsgroups, but it customized for UBB.
From the looks of it, Trillian gets the info from an XML file that is created by UBB.

No doubt using UBB's new Content Island feature...which we have already implemented in vB3.

Sounds wrong to me :p
No, their Content Island feature allows you to have content available outside of UBB in various formats. Then whoever that site is, is having people install the XML News plugin for Trillian and add the site's XML feed, which in turn comes from UBB, to their Trillian and then they get to see the newest stuff. Quite simple actually, and not all that useful IMHO.
Edit: I should also point out that, no, the news plugin does NOT come with Trillian Pro. It is available as a free download, but it is not included in the actual Trillian download.

AlligatorSQL (http://alligatorsql.com/english/firma.html) have done something like this with their Oracle, MySQL and others database development tool.
From within the app you can read, join and post directly to their support forums and also to my forums at dBforums.com
It's only just been released, so I'm not sure what effect it will have.
