I am wondering how much bandwidth is actually needed. I am estimating at the very most around a total of 5000 registered users and about 50 concurrent users.
Also, does anybody know what the average size of the db gets?
Sorry guys but I totally am starting from square 1. I'm going to barnes & nobles to pick up some books.
Thanks!

Depends, really. Factors such as images, attachments and compression can vary things greatly.
I can handle 30 concurrent users with a 256 kbps connection, but my site is GZIPed and has few images.

80 concurrent and 2000+ users of which 500+ visit each day about 40% registered/60% guests and under 10GB for now. I'm expecting that to spike soon though (seasonal).
I do have GZIP enabled plus have replaced various buttons with text links. No attachment serving, avatars.

Thanks guys for the input!
jdearing: do you have avatars/banners/signatures and are your users able to post pics? I'm just wondering why 40gb / month!!! I hope I won't be using that much bandwidth!
baragon0: you mind me asking you how much bandwidth you go through a month?
adrianchew: 80 concurrent and 2k+ users. This is what my ideal situation is probably going to look like. I already underestimated concurrent users. But total registered would be closer to 3-4k. You say it's under 10gb for now, but is that from the start of the month til now? (3 days)... Or is that the average you go through a month. I just want to make sure. But I think I will follow in your footsteps with disabling attached files. I would love to NOT have avatars but the age group I'm trying to reach loves those things. Could you suggest a good size limitation for avatars? And about signature banners?
Hope you guys don't mind my questions!
Thanks!

Note - 10GB is just outgoing Web traffic though. I have low signature length limits (no long signatures) plus no avatars - plus a lot of people who hang around a few hours a day I suspect.
Avatars can quickly add up to a whole lot more bandwidth - unless you just let them link to an avatar they have stored somewhere else other than your site.

Around five gigabytes, but my bandwidth is never at full throttle (users never experience a slow down) because it's evenly distributed.
Should also note I run other websites on this server.

50-100 concurrent users (mostly guests these days). 2500 memberships, about 1500 posts a week.
GB? Under 10.
Database size? 70,000+ posts. Well over 100G
