::rant::
I posted this in a thread referring to a mySQL error I get constantly. This just shows how greedy they are, unorganized, and unwilling to satisfy a customer. I've contacted them before about changing the machine my site was on and the lowest I got them to was $70. For all the error's I'm getting it should have been fixed a long time ago.

(for actual server stats go here: http://degster.com/phpinfo.php )

Here is the actual ticket I submitted last night and earlier today.

Customer (John DeGlavina) - 09/26/2002 12:14 PM
Within the last month, and even more recently, I've been getting hundreds of messages a day from my software reporting of database errors similar to this:

Database error in vBulletin :

Link-ID == false, connect failed
mysql error:

mysql error number:

Date: Thursday 26th of September 2002 11:51:55 AM

The software sends me a message EVERY time there is an error. This is NOT my error. It was confirmed by one of your tech reps (Kelly to be exact) last week that every time I was getting these errors, the times corresponded to the times that the mySQL server had to reset. (for some reason)

Therfore, I'd like to request that this be fixed. I've been with Hostcentic (web2010) for a long time, so I'm probably on one of the old, beat servers that desprately needs an upgrade. I would VERY much like it if my site was moved to a new server.

If this issue is not resolved in a timely manner I will definitely be changing servers.

The reason why this occurs is because mysql needs to be restarted everytime there is a new database for a client added. This is normal. If you would like to move to another server thinking this may help we can do that. However this is normal, and nothing that a decent timeout set can't handle.

Customer (John DeGlavina) - 09/26/2002 02:36 PM
I know my site is on an old server. Why are new clients being added to it? I'm sure there's more than one machine over there...

It's simple.. I'm getting ****ty service. How can server downtime be considered normal?

I don't care what has to be done. If it's still going on by next week I'm changing my hosting service.

We are not adding clients to this server, however if one requests a database we will add that. Also the age of the server is of no consequence the hardware is up to date, and so are the service. We DO NOT put substandard servers on our network. If you are not happy with the server you are on please contact sales for a server move. The server would not be online if it was problematic.

Okay, I'm just getting bull**** now.

"We DO NOT put substandard servers on our network."
Than why is the software out of date? PHP is 4.0.1pl2! Last time I checked 4.2.3 was the lastest version. To me, that alone is substandard. mySQL is also out of date! I've requested repeatedly that this be updated, but it's never happened. When I asked what could be done I got 'you can be moved to another server... for a fee' .. right!! (sarcasm)

And about the server having to restart everytime a new database is added. Really? What kind of backend are you running??

I haven't gotten a straight answer yet. I've come to realize that when you get 20k impressions a day you need performance... and I'm not getting it.

Please, just tell me something accurate that'll make me happy. I already have another host picked out.

I am not in the business of arguing with our clients.

If there is anything we can do for you please let us know. If you wish for your site to be moved to a new server we can do that, if you want your mysql database moved we can set you up on another server however you will have to do the import export. Please advise us on how you would like this handled.

This is just one complication that I've run into. They also run a stat program on their clients domains that generates huge log files. I have been overcharged for space on a number of occasions. One time I found it was because I had a 120meg log file laying there in my root!! This is also a constant problem.

I'll admit, they do have good service, but you have to call the toll line to speak to a 'Soultions Engineer'. Otherwise know someone in their tech department; get their extention, or submit a ticket, like I did above.

Their site is http://hostcentric.com I give em a great big http://bbs.asog.net/images/smiles/thumbsdown.gif

Needless to say, I'm changing servers very soon! :mad:

Sorry so long!

Yeh, I appreciate it, but I've already found a new host. http://hostingmatters.com :)

I'm very happy with them already.
