I'm constantly getting this error. At least 100 a day!

Database error in vBulletin :

Link-ID == false, connect failed
mysql error:

mysql error number:

Date: Friday 27th of September 2002 01:12:23 AM

Obviously the mySQL server the site is using isn't connecting. I contacted my host about this and they said 'The reason why this occurs is because mysql needs to be restarted everytime there is a new database for a client added. This is normal. '

Is this BS or what? I'm just about ready to tell them to f off and get a new server. Should I?

That's BS, I use CPanel 5 and my new databases are added instantly.

It's Hostcentric (formally web2010)

Here's everything you need to know about the server: http://degster.com/phpinfo.php

They're sure behind on their version of PHP.

/me suggests that you go get a new host ASAP

Yikes - PHP 4.0.1pl2!!!

This is definitely not one of them cutting-edge type of hosts.

Given the misinformation about MySQL and the fact that they don't care enough about their servers or their customer's data to upgrade to more secure and stable versions of their software, I suggest you start looking for a new hot.

wow... yeh, the latest version is 4.2.3. LAst time I asked them to update to the latest version they said something about moving my site to another machine... for a fee!! They also said upgrading would require too much downtime or something.

Aparently my site is on one of their older machines that they insist is up to standard. Obviously it's not since the software is out of date and I have no control over my mail anymore.

So how do I load a mySQL database to a new server?? .. :D

I thought this was funny... jackasses...

Within the last month, and even more recently, I've been getting hundreds of messages a day from my software reporting of database errors similar to this:

Database error in vBulletin :

Link-ID == false, connect failed
mysql error:

mysql error number:

Date: Thursday 26th of September 2002 11:51:55 AM

The software sends me a message EVERY time there is an error. This is NOT my error. It was confirmed by one of your tech reps (Kelly to be exact) last week that every time I was getting these errors, the times corresponded to the times that the mySQL server had to reset. (for some reason)

Therfore, I'd like to request that this be fixed. I've been with Hostcentic (web2010) for a long time, so I'm probably on one of the old, beat servers that desprately needs an upgrade. I would VERY much like it if my site was moved to a new server.

If this issue is not resolved in a timely manner I will definitely be changing servers.

The reason why this occurs is because mysql needs to be restarted everytime there is a new database for a client added. This is normal. If you would like to move to another server thinking this may help we can do that. However this is normal, and nothing that a decent timeout set can't handle.

Customer (John DeGlavina) - 09/26/2002 02:36 PM
I know my site is on an old server. Why are new clients being added to it? I'm sure there's more than one machine over there...

It's simple.. I'm getting ****ty service. How can server downtime be considered normal?

I don't care what has to be done. If it's still going on by next week I'm changing my hosting service.

Response (Marc Barnum) - 09/26/2002 03:32 PM
We are not adding clients to this server, however if one requests a database we will add that. Also the age of the server is of no consequence the hardware is up to date, and so are the service. We DO NOT put substandard servers on our network. If you are not happy with the server you are on please contact sales for a server move. The server would not be online if it was problematic.

Customer (John DeGlavina) - 09/27/2002 02:35 PM
Okay, I'm just getting bull**** now.

"We DO NOT put substandard servers on our network."
Than why is the software out of date? PHP is 4.0.1pl2! Last time I checked 4.2.3 was the lastest version. To me, that alone is substandard. mySQL is also out of date! I've requested repeatedly that this be updated, but it's never happened. When I asked what could be done I got 'you can be moved to another server... for a fee' .. right!! (sarcasm)

And about the server having to restart everytime a new database is added. Really? What kind of backend are you running??

I haven't gotten a straight answer yet. I've come to realize that when you get 20k impressions a day you need performance... and I'm not getting it.

Please, just tell me something accurate that'll make me happy. I already have another host picked out.

Response (Marc Barnum) - 09/27/2002 02:49 PM
I am not in the business of arguing with our clients.

If there is anything we can do for you please let us know. If you wish for your site to be moved to a new server we can do that, if you want your mysql database moved we can set you up on another server however you will have to do the import export. Please advise us on how you would like this handled.

They honestly can't offer a solution. ef them...

Both PHP and MySQL are lower than the minimum requirements for vB:

[b]Minimum Requirements:[b]
vBulletin is designed to run on every server that has PHP 4.0.4 or greater and MySQL 3.23 or greater installed.

Well, the error I'm getting has nothing to do with the version of mySQL and PHP, but I'm sure with the newer version everything will run better anyway.

Like I said to that jackoff above: I already have a new host picked out. They have triple the space (which I need) everything else I already have but with free 'park and point' and sub-domains. So.. instead of this crap: http://degster.com/midi/board/ I'll have something like http://board.midibuddy.net (right now midibuddy.net is a redirect to degster.com/midi/, degster.com is a mirror of johnsworld.com ... it's a mess)
