It appears that the text area width for the reply and new thread forms are too narrow with mozilla. Could you make sure to change this for VB3?

Yes, i've always been complaining of this, but has never been fixed :)

It's a small thing, but that really bugs Mozzi users...

Yeah, and I think the prevelance of mozilla is going to increase greatly. It's a great browser.

It's *WAY* better than IE 6.0+.

I couldn't navigate the web anymore without the ULTRA USEFUL tabs that mozzi 1.0 introduced... that's a great idea ;)

And you don't have to fear virus, bugs, etc... cause the Mozilla suite is as bugless and safe as possible, 10.000 times better than Outlook+IE.

And if you want to suggest something or to warn the devs of a bug, you can ACTUALLY do it: i've had several bugs and problems I had solved in less than a week since I reported the problem... :)

If Mozilla was as bugless as you'd have us believe there would not be a need for bugzilla.

At any rate this is not a discussion of which browser is best so please do not turn it into one.

As you can see, I said something different. Being completely bugless is IMPOSSIBLE for any complex software, and Mozilla surely is.

When i say "as bugless as possible", I meant being bugless as VBB 2.2.7, which has really few few bugs, cause most of them have been promptly hunted down.

Of course that doesn't mean we don't need a bugzilla (as IE needs service packs, fixes, etc...) or we will not need a 2.2.8 :)

I hope i did explain myself. Said that, That's all folks, i don't want to convince anyone to use Moizlla or whatever, I'd just like if Jelsoft would keep an eye on this browser too while developing 3.0, and not consider ONLY IE, even if that covers 95% of the browsers market.

Thanks guys :)

Well, then back to the topic. Any plans to fix the text area width problem in vb3?

You set this in the style area of vB2 and vB3. If the textarea isn't wide enough for a particular browser, you can increase it easily and quickly yourself.

I think the problem with mozilla, is that for some reason, it's treated the same as Netscape 4.x by the current code. So it pulls that default number. I've already fixed it on my board through a hack. I would love to have it fixed at all the wonderful vbulletins I visit on the web.

Oh and do you have a link to a thread about fixing this through styles? I've searched and searched these boards and couldn't find a fix besides the hack at vbulletin.org.

There is no thread... There is a group of boxes where you can specify the width in the Styles area under [fonts, colors, etc].

Now at SitePoint Forums, I have no hacks installed for this and the textarea box is just a nice fine and dandy size in Mozilla. I don't personally care about Netscape 4.XX or earlier or Internet Explorer 4.0 or earlier on any of my sites. I make sure the sites are passable but I won't go out of my way to fix problems caused by 5 year old browsers.

That's right, but I would like to see the textarea width specified in the default template :)

That would make it work both on IE and mozzila, and would means that 99% of the vbb board would have a right text area field, instead that the contrary, as it is now :)

???

The textarea width is specified in the default templates. Have you looked where Wayne pointed you? There are 3 settings, based on what browser the user is browsing with.

If the Netscape one doesn't cover Mozilla, then that should be looked at, but it is in the default templates in vB2 and it will be in vB3.

It uses the netscape 4.x default which is set to 40, I believe, not 70 like it should be. It might be wise to download mozilla and try it on a number of boards. The problem will be obvious to you when you try to reply to thread. It's an easy fix to one function in the functions.php file. See the hack that's available at vbulletin.org: http://www.vbulletin.org/hacks/index.php?s=&action=showhack&hackid=402

Right, that's what I meant. Otherwise I wouldn't be writing this reply in this VERY VERY NARROW textbox ;)

It's a 1 row fix, but it's worth it, cause that will make 99% of the vbb boards fully compatible with mozilla (most of the ppl would ignore and/or wouldn't fix that value to work right, because of the small share mozilla has nowadays) :)

Have you even look at this in the Alpha board? I have just loaded that in Mozilla and the box seems fine. It doesn't matter what this board is like because this isn't vBulletin 3.0.

Yay! Ok, it was fixed in VB3! It looks fine.

Any chance of the change being made for 2.2.8?
