So... I have had it with the Perl and the memory leaks and it is time to change systems. Having a community of 350 members, I don't really want to have them all re-register as we would have a serious drop off and that would suck. I also don't want to lose the archives, current threads, etc so the ability to import those is a huge selling point.

So... I am sure that many have you have done this and I am hoping that you can fill me in on how easy it is to do without giving me the sales pitch. I am pretty much already sold on this product but want to finalize my decision by acquiring some more information.

So... any response would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks,
Cygnus

It's all automated and I didn't have any trouble. :) Imported members, forums, categories, and posts/threads.

What did you want to know? You didn't really ask anything :D

"We have a really great shew..." :)

Well... I am really looking for reassurance which you have given me. I want to make sure that the process is not overly complicated and can happen without a lot of effort or heartache. You seemed to indicate that it can and that is really all that I needed. Thanks!

Anyone else have anything?

Yeah.. It will take you about 10 minutes to install vBulletin and get a cup of coffee. Once you are back with your coffee, you log into the Admin Control Panel, scroll down a little and click on "Import from UBB". Fill out the form and off it goes. Pretty simple really.

I too have done it. There are a few little surprises, I went much slower then the gents above. I set it up on a test server and just mass copied the UBB dirs to the test server.

Then I did the import thing. You need to make notes of the little things so that you can remember to do them when you switch over. For instance on my UBB board, I had it set up so that you were either a member, or a guest, no senior junior etc. I forgot to redo that and I had members crying because so and so was a senior and they were only a junior!

So there are a few minor things like that but all in all in worked as advertised or better, and is a far better board when you're done.
