Any chance of getting an importing plugin that will import a live journal text file export?

This would be great. I'd love to be able to backup my LJ on my VB. Only problem I can see is that LJ has public, friends only, private and cutom friends groups to restrict post viewing to.

It would be great to see.

Not a bad idea. I use LiveJournal too. But I doubt this will happen, posting on vBulletin.org requesting a hack would properly be best for this

It's a good idea, and someting I will consider. However I need to know more of the demand for this before I can dedicate the time to develop one.

Anyone else interested? :)

I'm not sure what the demand would be. On one hand there is 900,000+ livejournal/deadjournal users. If anything it would be good just for importing the LJ communities alone which are pretty much just journals anyone can post to. If it's possible to import the replies as well.

On the other hand not sure how many of these LJ communities/journals would want to leave the LJ server and go to a VB. A lot of them like the fact of using an LJ community simply because it delivers new community messages to their friends page of their own journal. Plus for a lot of these people the custom LJ/threaded view is the defacto standard for viewing a community. They may not prefer the vb/UBB standard type of view.

I've had a hard enough time getting people to go from simple little LJ filmmaking communities to my vb filmmaking community.

But then there are people like me that love options. So I guess you have to count those people more then anyone.

I would love to see it. Almost have of my users use LJ, and a lotof them would move to the vB if they could.

Could someone please send me a sample text file export, so that I can see how easy it would be to write an importer? If it looks OK, then this will probably launch as part of the new import system in vBulletin 3.

james.ussher-smith@vbulletin.com

Thanks :)

I've had a look at the data file and it looks fairly simple...so a conversion will be possible. Look out for one with vB 3!

The script looks like it will be very simple to write so demand won't be a major issue.

No - development on the importers for vB 2.x stopped a couple of weeks ago so that I could work on upgrading them all to work with vBulletin 3.

That's great that you're willing to make one. Thank you for listening. :)

Unfortunately as for myself I won't be upgrading to vb3 anytime soon. Just installed my 2.2.6 a couple of months ago with about 10 hacks and I'm not looking forward to messing with it for a least a year or so. But guess how things go. Still good to know there will be an importer available.
