I have Ventures Online. They are a good host with excellent tech support and a friendly staff, but they are too expensive for me. I was on the v-500 plan, but they said my site gets too many hits, even though I did not exceed my web space or bandwidth. They told me I needed a dedicated server. With the extra RAM, it costs me $275 per month. I can't afford to do that for much longer.
As far as sites go, I would call mine a medium. I get around 30-35 members (and visitors) at a time, although I can peak at 50-55 at a time for a few minutes a day. I use less than 50g of bandwidth per month. To see my site, go to www.vegasgangonline.com/forum
Why do I really need a dedicated server? Where else can I go to get virtual hosting?

VO's VPS plans here are a step up, but more affordable: http://www.venturesonline.com/hosting/vps.html
Check out WebhostingTalk.com for more.

Yes, the VPS plans look good, but still not enough for my site. Why does my site take so my web hosting? Can anyone explain that to me?

I don't understand. You use less than 50 Gb ? The v-500 plan is limited to 20 GB. Do you pay your extra bandwith each month ?
What's the limit in hits/month for the v-500 plan ? 200 000 hits/day ? Do you ask them on their support forum ?
I thought VO's v-500 plan support a lot of traffic...

I never went over the bandwidth limit, the problem was my number of hits per day.

Drop me a PM or an email. I have a dedicated server and could share it.
