Just wanted to let you know vBulletin nicely handled an influx of visitors to the SignOnSanDiego Forums on Wednesday when the verdict came in in the David Westerfield kidnap-murder trial.

We had been getting 200-300 simultaneous users online during pauses in daily trial coverage on television. When the verdict came in Wednesday, August 21, the user load steadily soared past our previous high of 566 users up to the 900s, eventually maxing out at 952 users.

We had somewhere around 1,400 posts that day.

952 users is alot... pretty close to a record i'd imagion. There are a select few who have made it over 1000 (in 15 minutes). I think 1000 iin 15 minutes is EXTREMELY impressive.

Congrats on your success.

We made it to 1112 on 7/22/02 and subsequently the forums were too busy, and I think I actually had to reset the server at that time because it had gone into some swap spiral, and crawled to a halt.

Anyway, have subsequently upgraded servers (not just for that one burst)... so hopefully will handle it better if it gets that high.

Man, how powerful are your servers to handle these traffic loads?

My server falls over at around 290 users... we've got the following setup -

What do I need to do to increase our capacity?

I'd be interested to know the hardware you use to support so many users. :)
