Right now, when a user closes their browser window, the user is still displayed as logged in on the Who is Online.

Maybe you can make it simiar to what's on Kevin's Webcam site, where when the window closes, a small popup is displayed for half a second, and runs a script that logs the person out?

Maybe not logs the person out but at least marks them as not being online anymore (i.e. deletes their session).

The only problem is for those of us that surf in multiple windows. It wouldn't be able to know if you have multiple vB windows open so every time you closed one you'd lose your session.

I would like to see an Admin-settable option added that allows the Admin to auto-logout a user, so that the user would have to login (enter their username and password) every time they visit the community. The default could, of course, be to allow users to be remembered every time they come back to the forums - but it would be nice for sites that appreciate a little more security to be able to require users to always login.

How about allowing admins to set a time limit, after which a user would be logged out.

It does that now with the session handling.

Is there a way for admins to vary the timeout period? My members get logged out when going for a high score in moonlander, and the score wont submit :(

Well, you could just ask them to click "Remember me!" when they login in the first place! :D

But, I think they should do what secure bank websites do. "Remember me" should be re-named to "Remain logged In", and if it's not ticked, then navigating away from the site will either log them out automatically, or a dialogue box should be summoned and ask them...

Bit of a long shot, I know, but it's my imagination going wild.

Is it possible to capture "opening/closing a tab/window" with JavaScript?

I HATE sites that use vBulletin just for this reason (login/logout)! I don't like to have to click "remeber me" because I always forget to log out before I get off the 'net. And not clicking isn't an option because the webmasters always set the timeout too low (like 5 minutes or less usually). I'd never sign up with another site that uses vBulletin, and try and find sites with PHPBB instead, except that all of the good sites I find use VB.

There's one site I go to that uses FuseTalk that's pretty good for this problem. You can open as many windows as you want, and when you log in it stays logged in as long as you keep at least ONE of those windows open. When you close all of the windows, then it autologs you out.

I don't recall if it also logs you out if you just keep the window open for too long without doing anything, but *if* it does log out after a certain length of inactivity, it's for such a long period (hours) that it hasn't irritated me or ruined a posting.

If you just fix the login thing I'd be so thrilled with VB! (And yes I signed up here just to say that).
