When I click on a board, and get the overview of the threads, I noticed that none of the threads have any views. While the announcement has (probably) the correct amount.

Bug?

Thread views are now updated in batches. I think the vB3 forums are currently set to do this every 48 minutes.

Well, at any rate, something isn't working right, because it's now 3.5 hours after some of the first threads were posted, and the view count remains at 0.

So, moving on to the more relevant question: Is the view count done in batches for performance reasons? If so, how does it make that great of a difference?

It was not working on this server as a result of a PHP bug (14251). It should be working now.

Why was this changed?

(and...)

Does it require cron or Task Scheduler?

(and...)

Will we be able to set it to update the views automatically (as vB2 does now)?

Performance reasons on large boards and the fact that MySQL doesn't support Row-level locking.

No...

Yes.
