Just bought vBulletin and I just can't wait to get it installed and hacked up :)
The best BB ever, IMO.

Welcome!
Keep in mind:
Code Hacks are Source-Code (.php) alternations. On vBulletin.com you do not get (in most cases) support on this, since the vB team did not write the code and therefor can't do more then advice you to uninstall alternations.
Template Mods are Back-end Template Modifications (none .php stuff). On vBulletin.com you get support on this, since no source-code has been altered.
So it might be wise to first get to know vBulletin and how it acts and is set up and what options you got etc, prior to installing some 'cool' hacks :)
*just some advice*
Give us a shout when your vBulletin board is on-line so we can all have a look.

(btw: this thread seems to be in the wrong category?)
Hi xiphoid,
Thank you for this reply. I am not familiar with hacking and stuff, but have been browsing through vbulletin.org and the *beautiful* http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/
At vbulletin.org I found some Guides for Newbies, explaining what hacking is and how you apply it exactly. On http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/ I didn't really find that yet. And on VBulletin.com I couldn't find clear documentation for *Newbies*, explaining what hacking is exactly and what the difference between .php and template modifications is, like you do here in your message.
Maybe I haven't searched enough on vbulletin.com, but is there some kind of Newbie Guide to hacking (.php and templates) overhere? Maybe some of the threads have info on this, but I would like to see an more 'official' Guide for Newbies. Having said that I hope that there will be more Documentation for VB3 when it is released. Not only for hacks, that is. It's just that I think I am not the only one asking himself -as a newbie- how exactly the whole template system works. You yourself made a great Guide for example : [HowTo] Design and Tweak your Frontpage. I think more guides like this one, concentrating on the way Vbulletin ITSELF works with templates etc, would come in very handy.
We have the 'vBulletin Template Reference' for example, with a detailed explanation of each template. But it doesn't cover an OVERALL explanation of the template system ITSELF. Questions like 'do I override things when I upgrade to a new VB version?' and more Basic questions are not covered really. I hope VB3 comes with more documentation like this, especially for newbies.
Grover. (one of the few DUTCH VB-users.... :p)
PS. Why don't they promote you to a Moderator overhere (or overthere...) ?! I think they should, seems like your life is almost BASED around VBulletin! ;)

In the members section there are a few reference documents (a template guide and a database design document). http://www.php.net/ has all the documentation you need to learn PHP scripting. As for how to specifically hack vBulletin, once you learn PHP just read through the vBulletin source. It's semi-documented.
