I noticed this:

Let's say you have a hot thread (more than 15 topics) and you lock it. After locking it should display the hot locked icon (newlockfolder.gif).

Well, it doesn't, in fact it will only show "newlockfolder.gif" on a closed hot thread if you visit it for the first time after it's closed. By a second visit it will display a wrong icon: the locked icon instead of the locked HOT icon (lockfolder.gif instead of newlockfolder.gif).

I tried this on version 1.1.1

John or James: Lock a hot topic in the test forum, and you'll see what I mean, unless I'm wrong :)

I'm not quite folowing you there... I saw nothing anomalous in the test forum.

John,

In your test forum generate a thread that contains more than 15 replies, which makes it a hot thread.

Lock the thread, go back to the actual list of threads (the main page of the test forum), you'll see that the icon turned into a hot locked icon, which is right.

Now when you enter a second time, after going into the hot thread, the list will display just a closed thread icon, instead of a HOT closed thread.

Just test it out and it will be clear to you :)

I think that you are getting a bit mixed up between HOT and NEW threads. A hot thread is a thread with more than 15 replies, and the 'hotness' of a thread is lost when it is locked - just the locked icon is shown. A new thread is a thread that has had a reply since you last visited. The first time that you see a thread it will be new, but thereafter, as long as there have been no further replies, it will not be new.

That's not normal to me, even if you visit for the second time, a hot locked folder should remain HOT I think. If I visit non-locked hot folders, they keep HOT, because they have more then 15 replies. Same goes for a locked folder to me.

What do other people think here?

I think that the 'Hot' is meant to show that there is a lot of activity in that particular thread... so if a thread is locked, then there will be no activity at all, and in that case the thread shouldn't be marked 'Hot' anymore.

I am not sure about that. I would have to say that a locked hot topic is a heavily viewed page even after it is locked, so it would be good to keep it a hot locked folder in my opinion.

But the hot part of the icon would be lost behind the lock - it would only really be visible to someone looking for it.

Ahh, but like me, I am not using your icon set, but the ones we had from before:)

It would just be nice to have it that way, I agree.

I agree with were-here. I think most people will want to find out why a topic is locked.

Also, the definition of a hot icon is "more than 15 replies" and not "lots of activity". If a hot open folder isn't active at all anymore (meaning, more than 15 posts but no new posts) it will still stay HOT :)

It's just how you think about it, but both options sounds reasonable, so I think you should have a setting in the controlpanel, in order to let the admin make a decision on how to handle hot locked folders.

OK. I'll get it to look for newhotlockfolder.gif and hotlockfolder.gif for the next version. Then you can choose whether you want the hot bit or the lock bit to show through in the icon (or both!)
