Hello ,
i wanted to ask about a few servers how much online users you think they can handle , assuming the server is only for one vB forum.

1st server :
AMD XP 1900
1 gb memory
7200 RPM IDE drive

2nd server
Dual p3 1Ghz
1 Gb ram ( also tell me how much with 2 gb )
Dual 10k RPM SCSI drive

3rd server
Celeron 1.3
512 mb
7200 RPM IDE drive

this will help me choose which server to buy for my forum , im currently having 150 avg users at a time , and my server cant handle them , im searching for a new server that will be able to handle 300+ users ..

thanks alot

Ben

I think the first choice would be best for that.

The second is a bit too powerful and the third I wouldn't even trust as a home desktop.

is this with DDRAM and not SDRAM ?

notes
- users as in vB online users past 15 mins and being 50:50 members:guests meaning 250 users = 125 register members and 125 guests
- taking into a/c you will be doing regularly and daily database maintenance and back ups etc

server 1 = probably 200 - 250 users bottleneck being the slow drives

server 2
1GB ram = 250 - 500 users
2GB ram = 300 - 750 users

server 3 = 100 - 250 users (not recommended)

then again if you have a different mix of registered versus guests the numbers could be higher or lower

thanks well the more members means more users calling mysql functions in vB

P4s are that great for web server compared to P3s...

i'd take Dual P3 1ghz over a P4 2ghz
