View Full Version : Excluding certain forums

We have a wide range of forum subjects. Some members wish to exclude certain forums as not being of interest to them.

In particular the "list new posts" returns posts from all forums - what would be better is for the users to be able to set (in their profile) the forums that they would prefer to be included or excluded from this list.

It would be of some help to set this on a system wide level but much more use for a user preference. VB needs to be more personalisable to the users interests within a site.

Excellent idea! I would love to see a feature like this, and I'm sure my members would too. :)

What about using Forum Subscriptions? They could just subscribe to the forums of interest to them and view in the UserCP.

This sounds like an excellent feature to me as well.

Forum subscriptions are not a very popular feature.

Most people arrive at the index page and "list new posts" - I know that's what I do.

However people get annoyed when subjects from forums of no interest to them are returned each time they do this (which might be several times a day).

"List new posts" is a form of search - a normal search allows selection of forums (actually only one at a time or all which is another limitation).

Well, honestly, that's exactly what Forum Subscriptions are designed for. It does exactly what they are looking for it to do.

I don't think it would be very hard to add a "New Posts" button to the Forum Subscriptions page, I haven't looked at Jelsoft's implementation but I imagine it really just involves a cleverly crafted SQL SELECT statement. I don't think you'll be seeing this in vB3 since they have locked the features until the release. But you could make a hack for it.
