A couple of my forum members have requested a spell check feature, and I know there was talk over at vbulletin.org about using the perl libraries but this seems like quite a difficult hack to get working perfectly. Before I embark, I'm wondering if a built in spell checker is on the table for vBulletin 3?

Not at this time. There isn't a reliable provider of spell-check.

However if your people want to use spell-checking they can install ieSpell. Then they can spell check any text area on any site with a right-click on their mouse. I use it and it works great.

Chris Lambert (Stallion) is working on a spell checker for vBulletin, but we can't give you a date when it will be ready.

It definitely won't be ready for the first few vB3 beta versions.

FWIW I've installed iespell and love it. It works very well and is much faster than the old Spellcheck.net service. :)

They answered you and gave you a possible solution.
And - If you're really desperate for one implement on your forums, they have a few hacks over at http://vbulletin.org

I sometimes feel like forcing a spell check on my users--all the spelling errors and irregular capitalization tend to piss me off.

(I probably had a couple spelling errors up there myself; oh well)

Does it only work in textareas, like this msg editor? I tried highlighting some text in some posts and it doesn't work. I thought this thing did it all on the fly...

Either way, it's handy when writing msgs...

It appears to only work for form elements.
