this is a question regarding how the logging works. what made me think of this was cary's post on how the cop's sit ehe goes to was trying to bust him for going back after he was banned.
what i want to know is if your not logged into a the board and you return to the site will the admin know youve been there? and if so is it logged that they can go check and see who logged on that day?
if so , and they find out through your cookies....and you delete your cookies will they still be able to tell that its you who has been there like by your IP,,,and is that logged also?
if you make up a different name can the admin still tell its you ?
im just wandering becuase i have no idea how the program works, i dont have a site yet but i plan to in the future and i would like to know how sensitive V bulliten is to these kinda things.
thanks

If you do not register and do not post, your IP address will be removed from the database after a certain administrator-set amount of time. However, they could check the Who's Online while you are at the site, and see your IP address. If you register and post, your IP address from the time you registered is stored, and is stored each time you post. :)

Well that site didn't even run vBulletin, it ran OpenBB. In fact, it was OpenBB's site!
It also appears Cary has been spamming this message on every board he can think of - I found it at Invision Board's forum earlier, where it was promptly locked :P

umm... I only posted my legal advice thread on this site.
Could you post a URL to the post? I'm confused...

this is still a little too technical for me, i even went to the demo board, i understand a bit more but just not sure on a few things
like say im the admin of this board right here, can i sign on and see who was all on here today?
and if so does it say like "cybernetic signed on a 12:15, 12:30 today IP 205.65.321 , or how exactly does it work
than for the guests it would say "guest signed on at 12:30 IP 201.33.521"
and also one last confusing question, say your a member of the board but ur cookies arent enabled will it still show up as you being there?
this is all hypothetically speaking if the board does even keep a log
thanks again

Yes, that's what the sessionhash is. You know, that ?s=32iu4dmpo23ud423ioumd42p3 deal in all the URLs.
