I don't know about you and I don't mean to impose anything but I would be really happy to have the current features 2.0 + file attachement as the final 2.0
What we have now:
- My Vb
- Private messaging
- Favorite threads
- Favorite forums
- Sub forums
- Buddy list
- Ignore list
- Split / merge threads
- Poll system
All we really miss is file attachement.
With all those features, optimized code and templates, bug free, I would be really happy about 2.0.
I see other features like co-branding a nightmare of programing that may severly delay 2.0 release.
Of course all the other features would be released later as a 2.5.
Thoughts ? Wouldn't you be satisfied to have a rock solid 2.0 with all the features the demo currently has, bug free, + file attachement ?

Unfortunately, co-branding is the feature in 2.0 for many people, so it wouldn't be possible to push that off the plate.
And bug free is a key there - the session system still needs some working.

It wouldn't be canceled, just delayed to 2.5.
I used to follow a web programmer that did co-branding (not for a forum, for a seach engine script) I can tell you how a hell it was to make sure it was working for everyone.
And bug free is a key there - the session system still needs some working.
Yes, bug free, this is what I said. : "a rock solid 2.0 with all the features the demo currently has, bug free, + file attachement ? "
I find it much more reasonable to release a 2.0 like this (bug free, and code optimized) than with tons more additional features.

...but file uploads won't work if php is in safemode right?
so if john does implement file attachments, then people who use php in safemode will have to alter the post new files (or whatever) to .cgi and put the path to php?
plz correct me if I'm wrong

Also I don't think Split/Merge threads is working properly yet..when you cliick the link you get a blank page. Thats what I do when I intend to make a feature but haven't got around to it yet :D

I can say for myself the co-branding is the most important feature right now.

co-branding what i want as well as the new forum structure which is great. Most of the things added so far are just the hacks avaliable made by freedie and ed. The work has been on re-desigining the whole thing from the start up i would guess to increase speed and be able to have co-branding new forum structure etc, i dobut doing private messaging took much more than a day or two of the 6 month development process.

I don't mean we should supress co-branding !!
I mean we may split 2.0 release in 2 parts:
one part ASAP with the current implemented features bug free, optimized + file attachement, and the next part a little later with the rest of the features (co-branding.....).
Personally I'm in a critical situation and each day waiting for the new version hurts me.

i just don't think many people would bother to upgrade and i doubt they can do that anyway as the program is going to be tied in with co-branding etc - but i know how you feel, i have given up expecting an upgrade now and starting customizing and doing work on what we have now, may even start installing ed's private messaging etc.

So are we... we need the co-branding yesterday... why should your needs come before ours ?

Craig I don't mean my needs should be before yours.
I think that if we come to a point where the current features are completed and the co-branding not, then it would be good to have an intermediate release. This would not delay co-branding, as I guess it will be anyway one of the last feature John will be working on.

Craig -
I was curious how you accomplished what you have right now for co-branding?

In my opinion, co-branding is the only thing worth waiting for. Everything else offered can already be accomplished with a little coding and some creative template work.

Could someone give me a quickie on what co-branding is?

Co-BRanding is offering your forums to other sites. When viewed from the other sites they take on the colors and logos of those forums.
Now I currently work at one of the most successful webmaster communities on the net. If I could co-brand the forums, I could offer them to our partner sites. They would get content (over 60,000 posts), repeat traffic, a fully qualified staff to administer the forums, and new exposure. The forums would assume the partner site look and feel as well. In return we get increased page views and can broker partnerships with other sites. As success in the program increase revenues will increase for all involved.
Our partners currently include Moreover.com, Everyone.net and other well known service providers.
