when i go to the v2.0 test forum, it says "Welcome back dcsonic2k" who was the last one to register. so it kind of stores the cookie on the server :) and recognizes everyone as the last registered member!

well it is there :) can't believe you just added it at 4.10 a.m. :) certainly working hard for us!
But loads and loads and loads of problems. I doubt you really want us to submit bugs yet do you?

I'm so flattered that everybody wants to be me :)
It may be caused by the fact that I got a database error when I posted....
You've got a lot of work to do

One thing to keep in mind.....James and John have alot of work to do on this version. They just wanted to keeo their promise and have something for us to play with today. Good work guys.... I look forward to the feature loaded release :)

i click on Profile button in teh five links, then click on Edit Profile, do nothing, then go to Edit Options, change teh sig, and "Submit Modifications". It complains that :
"Please make sure that you have completed all the required fields. These include username, password and email. Press the back button, correct the error and try again. "

I would definetly suggest that you guys get a bug tracking and reporting system.... it would be a lot simpler and much more organized....
The major one is that right now TechTalk is my evil twin....

hmm I'm not seeing anything to get excited about yet.
I see three hacks (pms, polls, buddy list) incorporated and a sub-forum system that creates a serious state of confusion upon the user considering some users can't even figure out how to post to begin with.
I want to see attachments on par with the uBB hack.

And splitting/merging of threads by the look of it! Also, the ignore member feature (which will be a hit on my forum I am sure!).
This is really exciting to me, and a lot of the errors are template related right now I am guessing. Of course there are tons of bugs to find, but it looks great! Some layout changes for ease of use should be addressed though. :)

It would be an excellent addition if subforums messages would ALSO be displayed in its mother forum.
(in reference to my suggestion in: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=4287 )
Of course, this would not be an obligation, the webmaster would decide of the reciprocity.

When someone reply to a post, there should be a check box on the reply:
"Send a copy of this reply to the private message box of xxxxxx".
This way, the person can turn email notification OFF and still know if she has reply when she get in.

Private message:
- I have one private message. I replied it. Now it says I have two private messages. Messages in the sent box, shouldn't be counted as private message
-There should be a mark all read in private messages
-There is something strange with private message title:
I received one with a title, replied to it. In my sent box I saw my reply, but with another title that don't seem to correspond the the message title of the original message. I don't know exactly what is going on with it. It seems the subtitle is displayed in the sent box. Not very clear.
Well I guess this thread is not for bugs report. I'll stop and wait the bug forum to be opened here.

2.0 is promising. However we realize that there is still lots of work and test to be done.
I must really schedule my work now, and I guess I'm not the only one.
So I would like to know what will happen now. Should we expect day to day corrections of bugs and close work between us and John ?
Or will we see big and spaced updates of the alpha ?
What I will do will depend on this as to know if I wait 2.0 to launch my or do it with 1.4.
Thanks,
Benj

Will the online demo get updated with the bugfixes as they are made, so that gradually the online demo becomes more usable?
Or will we have to wait for the beta release in the members area before we get a bug free release?

Ok, it's an alpha....but I don't like the view of the sub forums. Looks like the categorie gecame a forum and under that are other forums. so not much change jet?
I think it should be as it is:
Categorie 1
- Forum1
- Forum2
Categorie 2
- Forum3
- Forum4
and only when you go to ForumX you will come to page with shows:
- SubForum1
- SubForum2
and no postings under ForumX when there is a subforum included, think user would be confused by letting them post under forumX and saw then posts and subfourms??
Think this part MUST be improved!!!!!

don't change the category sub forum thing it is brilliant although i am sure you can make it easier in the templates. It is optional of course.
You can do easily
> category 1 > Category 2 > Forum
as well as
> category 1 > category 2 > Forum
> category 1 > category 2 > category 3 > Forum
I don't see what is wrong with that, it is brilliant!

I only thing when you can't turn off, that user kann even post in category2 an see the forums also it will be confusing.
> category 1 > category 2 > Forum
Also it's a Problem what to show on the main site? for example how many post in the category? Show all subforums or not.
And in the Test forum:
Whats about Forum5? Why don't we see the Forum post and thread nimbers?
These things I think must be worked out or anyway must be able to choose from Admin!

Everyone:
It was said earlier in the thread, but let's not go crazy with the bugs right off the bat. All the ones you have mentioned have been brought up, and are fairly obvious. I'm sure they will be fixed as time progresses.
So just chill out. James promised to have us something this week, and he kept that promise. You can't expect it to be totally bug free within hours of its Alpha release.
So James, what about a "vBulletin 2.0 Online Demo - Bugs" thread? ;)
-jim

Yes, a bug thread could speed up the bugtracking and overal development of 2.0

Tue 21st Nov '00, 12:13pm
or maybe just take one of the forums on the new board and start a new thread for each bug so we don't have 10 different conversations in the one thread?
Maybe James/John can make a "bug report forum" for us over there
chrispadfield
Tue 21st Nov '00, 12:17pm
Definitely have a bug report forum with a new thread for each one.
Should be like:
X reports a bug. Others say "yes" i got that problem as well.
John fixes it and uploads new version to test site
James posts that it is fixed
Couple of people post that "yes it is fixed".
James closes thread.
but at the moment we are a bit far away from that, so many bugs and major features missing that i am sure they are busy enough fixing what they know about before we give them more :)

This is a major usability problem. A great idea, but it needs to be modified so users don't get confused. What The_Sisko suggested sounds like a very good solution, or at least a start.

Ok 2.0 looks grate but its an alpha so there r bugs....
now the 3 bugs I noticed until now are the following (I know that some were mentioned if not all):
1. PM counts sent and reseved messeges as new messeges to read. No problem if I don't keep a copy of the sent messege.
2. In PM kayout it shows the title of the messege as the name of the icon used...
3. An error page is produced when voting even though it works its just fowerding me to an error page.
I'll add more as I try 2.0 more :)

That confused me also. I wasn't sure if the threads in the first category contained the ones in the sub categories or not. It would be nice to have an option to not allow threads at that level. I would probably just want to have a list of sub-categories.
Unless, of course, the list of threads on the first page was a compilation of the threads in the sub-categories. That might be cool.

I think part of the confusion re: forums on the demo is due to the way subforms are named: sub forum, e.g. If real names were used, users would be less confused in navigating the board. So I'm not too concerned about navigation confusion at this point.
chrispadfield
Wed 29th Nov '00, 1:26am
possibly, but i still want categories that can't have posts in them not just forums.
Wayne Luke
Wed 29th Nov '00, 1:40pm
You can make it so your top level forums act like the categories of today by setting "Allow POsts" feature off in the user groups. Then you can restrict the flow of posts to your subforums.
I think the only thing you need to do to make categories and forums work the way you want in the new version is just work with the templates and permission settings. It shouldn't be that difficult.
Skeptical
Wed 29th Nov '00, 8:49pm
All that really needs fixing "I think" is for there to be some sort of icon, like a custom forum icon next to sub-forums, and folder icons for threads.
