View Full Version : Index Page blues....

Hi,

Dunno if this is the right place to put this.

I`ve just customized my forum, and very pleased with it. It renders fine in both IE6 and NS6 (and I do believe in IE5.5 as well).

It doesn`t however render properly in NS4x. However, the actual forums are displaying ok apparently, but the index is coming out a blank black page with just the head banner there. But the tables, codes etc are virtually identical to the forums. Except the forums have a background image and the index doesn`t (just a banner). Is there something in the code of my index page that could be causing the problem?

I`ve tried it without the banner, but it made no difference.

First, please follow the instructions in my sig to register for support on these forums.

And second, please fix your footer template or forum colors so the copyright notice is visible. As it is right now this is in violation of the license agreement.

And lastly I don't have NS 4.x so I really can't help with the problem. Good luck!

1) I am registered for support. Does that mean I have to ask in the Members Area (never noticed a forum there) or send in a `request`. What`s the point of having this forum then?

2) I haven`t finished the forums yet. The copyright notice is visible in the forums; it will be visible on the index page when the board is actually finished.

It won`t be finished until it actually renders in various browsers. I got a lot of users on my current Ezboard who use Opera and NS4x. They are not going to be able to use the board unless they can see the index page.

When that`s done and the board is ready for use, your copyright will be there on the index too, never fear.

Edited well I guess my registration didn`t take the first time, so I registered again just in case.

Heheh sorry if I sounded a bit testy. Had a hell of a time trying to fix this for NS. I hate that browser, and people just won`t upgrade to NS6. *sigh*.

One of my Mods put the code thru something called Exploder, and hopefully the problem isn`t too bad. I had a couple of open ended tags, which may have been caused when I moved the Online box to the top. Never caused any probs tho, except in NS4 (which I don`t use, but one of my Mods does). Hopefully that`ll sort it, b/c she can access the forums, so it must be something I`ve done on the index.

Here`s hoping........

Oh BTW, I noted I got emailed when you replied to this thread - I`ve got email function turned off on my board. I tested out the `subscribe widget` and it put things in my CP`. It won`t try to mail if anyone subscribes to threads will it, and get bounced back? Bit worried about that!!

They shouldn't get any emails if you turned that option off in the Admin CP.

Enable Email features?
Enable email sending features: send to friend and email notification for posters and moderators. Don't forget to remove those links from the forumdisplay, newreply, newtopic, & editpost templates. You may want to edit these templates in order to avoid confusion however.

Also I'm not sure what you meant by this:

I tested out the `subscribe widget` and it put things in my CP`.

Hi,

Where it says `Subscribe to this thread/forum` thingymebob. I clicked `em, and in my CP it said I was subscribed to them. That`s so cool btw. ;) So what I was worried about, was that it`d try to email notification as well. If it doesn`t then, great.

Full of questions tonight.......can I alter the java popups? When I opt to view a PM in a seperate window the window is actually to long and goes off the screen. As it`s already minimised, it makes it impossible to resize. Driving me nuts.

Strangely all my windows have gone past the `edge` of the screen. Someone else asked about the same thing, wondering if it was some code affecting things. Wierd eh?

Yeah as I said subscribing to forums does not send out email notices. It only adds those forums the the subscribed forum list in the user cp.

As for modifying the javascipt popups I really don't know how to do this. I suspect you'd have to hack the php code to do this.

Thanks for answering. I`ll probably nip over to vb.org and see if they`ve got anything. Otherwise I `ll have to live with it. :)
