I've tried installing the lite version and I've had a hiccup or two...

This is the error I'm getting...

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO) in db_mysql.php3 on line 29

Warning: 0 is not a MySQL link index in db_mysql.php3 on line 37

Admittedly I've never used mySQL before... please help!

Sidenote: and to think I was going to get all cocky and just buy vBulletin and "figure it out later"... Thank God I was sensible (this time... heh).

I changed some of my config.php3 settings to this:

<?php

// only mysql is supported at the moment
$dbservertype="mysql";
// hostname or ip of server
$servername="localhost";
// username and password to log onto db server
$dbusername="dana";
$dbpassword="***my pw***";
// name of database
$dbname="db12461d";

//password for control panel
$cppassword="foy4wellesley";

?>

Now I get this...

Attempting to connect...

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Access denied for user: 'dana@localhost' (Using password: YES) in db_mysql.php3 on line 31

Warning: 0 is not a MySQL link index in db_mysql.php3 on line 37

*sigh*... I will keep trying...

I should include my server specs, shouldn't I?

My host and php versions available ---> CommuniTech.Net is currently offering PHP version 3.0.9 and 4.0.3pl1. PHP 4.0.3pl1

They're Apache servers and ummm... I'm not sure what to tell you about MySQL - I can see any version numbers and stuff in my control panel.

It seems like your user specified in config.php3 doesn't have appropriate rigths to MySQL db. User must have rights to modify your db.

Contact your host for username/password to your db (as said, you need modify permission), edit config.php3 as given, pray a then enjoy vB. :D

Thanks so much Pef, I think you are right although my test vBulletin is still not running :(

I've been with Communitech for over a year now and have always had good things to say but GODDAMN!!! I finally, after much digging around and trying to sort it out on my own and make sure it wasn't me effing up I gave in and opened a support ticket and I swear I think they assigned a total dingbat to help me out. Five hours later she's getting the developers to have a look at it because... suprise, suprise it's a permissions problem. Just like I'm sure I said you told me in my very first email...

I'm assuming these are db permissions? I don't need to chmod any files do I? It may be a silly question but I've never dealt with MySQL nor installed a php script....

Nope, no chmodding. Tell communitech to make sure your MySQL user has select, insert, update, delete, create and alter permissions (I think that's all you need).

It was a permissions problem. I got it fixed. I got vBulletin lite running with the help of a kind Communitech support dude earlier today. Woo Woo.

I bought my license about an hour ago and had the full version running within about 10 minutes! installation was a breeze!

:) I am one very, very happy person now - grinning from ear to ear. I have my BB. I'm such an internet nerd... Lol...
