what if vb had the following options integrated

Revision History
This feature tracks all changes to both topics and replies and allows you to view the changes as well as the user who made those changes. This makes it very easy to track the changing content.

• Revision history support
• When a user edits a topics, a revision is created
• Revision support begins 30 minutes after a topic is created
• Revisions can be viewed from the topic and reply view pages

Announcements and Mailing lists

Mailing list is alread there. Annoucements are there to but add the following.

• Announcements can be posted in forums, or on the main page of your board
• Announcements can be scheduled to appear and disappear
• Mailing list support

File attachments to messages

already there but ad the following feature

• Can specify upload directory for file type, allowing you to keep all file types organized.
• The administration section of the board has a special area where you can view all of the files on the system. You can selectively delete files from the system from this interface making it very easy to manage file content on the board.

Performance and Scalablity

• Supports high performance environments
• Supports web farm configurations
• Utilizes Microsoft SQL stored procedures temporary tables and buffering for optimal performance
• COM object executes often run code for faster performance
• Administrators can specify filters per forum to display only the most recent posts

How many people think Vb shoud take advantage of the other db's out there, such as Oracle, MS SQL 2000, Acess 2000. the reason I mention being able to hold up to other database's is because I know all of Companies would love to use vb, but they wont because they dont feel the need to run to db's of a different brand on a server when there staff is trained trained for one, and also I know with Ms SQL 2000 you can get easy redundacy ets. im sure how and if you can get redundancy with mysql, I mean I have tryed it but it was no way easy to setup like ms sql 2000, and ms sql 2000 can hold more than mysql

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

or like what if jelsoft made a vb for unix/linux platform db's
and a vb for w2k .net platforms,
-------------------------------------

well any ways what are you guys opinions on this, it took me a while to research and develope this idea

Revision history is highly unlikely. This appears to be "borrowed" from some sort of CMS feature page where it would be much more appropriate than in a forum.

Announcements can already be set to appear & disappear.

vB3 has the ability to put attachments into the file system but not sorted in any manner.
Also vB3 has an extensive interface for finding and removing attachments.

"High performance" environments is a very subjective term.
vBulletin works in a web farm configuration just fine - it is the web server software you have to have set up to do so. MySQL (IIRC) currently does not work on more than one server, so you could have multiple servers running PHP/etc. stuff but only one running MySQL.
vBulletin doesn't support MSSQL so the MSSQL stored procedure one is irrelevant for now. If vBulletin were ever to support MSSQL it would probably use stored procedures.
COM objects are windows-only, yes? The installed base of vBulletin on windows is a fraction of that on unix, so this is fairly unlikely.

database support: Access is a single-user database even according to Microsoft's own promotional materials. We will never build a version of vBulletin around Access.
Oracle etc. are possibilities for the future. We have someone working on the beginnings of a port to Sybase and we will eventually support more than MySQL as has been stated many times in the past. I would really argue with the MSSQL vs. MySQL storage claim but that is neither here nor there.

okay that is cool, I thankyou for the good feedback, now what are basically saying is that mysql is not redundant so there for if by any chance the MySQL Server was to crap out then basically every db stored on it would be toast right.

Now what if I told you there was a bb app using someone those features mentioned about and they support ms sql all the way. See me and my Research and Development team at my co-location center finally decided that we can not support my sql any more due to the fact that its not an out of the box redundant ready. Now I think that fact that you guys are looking into other db's is real cool, I wish you could get someone to jump on ms sql 2000, I had a guy on my team who was able to do it, but sad for my situation he quit and found a higher paying job, but I seriously think that with an a doubt if vb3 was to come out support MS SQL 2000 and Oracle alot of major business would be switching over from, well im not going to say who the other guys are. Cause see basically it made me and my crew think that hey, mysql isnt redundant as the bigger db's yeah its open source, but there no redunancy in it like ms sql 2000 and oracle, so that pretty much leaves us large DataCenters out the loop, of trying to implement VB, i mean dont get me wrong im running vb and loving at but as far as implementing vb into my DataCenter im not gonna do it because myswl still has it very weak points, I mean yeah I could install in on a server with ms sql but would you really want to run to db's on one server, yet alone in my case install mysql on a 100k server, that would be insane right

===========================

now the revision history isnt borrowed from some cms feature page, there is a bb that has integrated it, I like the feature alot,
its very handy indeed. if you want to know what bb app it is, send me a PM, I just want to make it public, right now vb is King of all bb's and it would be nice for it to stay that way, but acting slowly on the db features wont let vb stay king long at all. and is it true that the maximum vb can handle online is around 30,000, is that is true, then that would explain why one of my clients was using vb and had a max of 43,000 employees and customers online at any given day and everything was going nuts, but when they switched over to the competitor that uses ms sql 2000 straight out of install everything has been fine since.
