Custom or edited templates are never deleted during upgrades, only the original templates are replaced.

Hey FireFly, how many of the original templates were edited for 2.2.6 anyway? Were there any at all?

I don't think any templates were changed, but I can't guarantee that. I think it was only code fixes... at least until now.

I done a quick check and no templates have been changed at all between 2.2.5 and 2.2.6.

hypedave, when you have the amount of code VB have, typos are inevitable. sometimes, those typos are pointed out by us, the end users, or corrected in the CVS by devs, while they remark it. regarding 226, i think jelsoft tries to make it reliable with PHP421 right now, not really to corect some typos.
i made a tutorial (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38545) related to easy board upgrade, at vb.org. you could use it, it will save you alot of time.

I had a lot of custom templates in version 2.2.2 and then went to 2.2.5. I fear my templates are still out of date...

Upgraded from 2.2.5 to 2.2.6 without any problems. There were only a few little alternations in the three templates that changed, so that wasn't really hard to figure out. The code upgrade went very well too, and upgrading the hacks to 2.2.6 was done within several minutes. (using ultraedit as editor)

The template changes are few and very easily implemented. Just read every announcement for each new version to see what changes should/could be made. Note, that it often isn't necessary to edit the templates if you have modified them, since you've probably already edited the typo they're talking about.

My board is as hacked as anyones. I discovered a while ago that Beyond Compare is Your Friend. 2.0 just came out for it and it totally rocks. Took about 30 minutes to move the hacks over to the new files, and about another 10 troubleshooting a problem with functions.php and the attachments as files hack (missed a line some how - hey, it was late). Attachments as files, btw, still works just fine with 2.2.6.
I believe I have at least 14 code hacks installed, and numerous template mods. Beyond Compare was the difference between an easy upgrade and a total nightmare:)

So if I revert my template and re-edit it will the change be in effect?

The templates changed from 2.2.5 to 2.2.6 are just little javascript changes, compare the old template against the new one (the javascript stuff) and you will notice. It is really easy.
