read this carefully to backup database,

1. Look to your left frame, and you'll see the name of your mysql databases.
2. Click on the database name and you'll see the right frame change, showing your databases' tables, how many records, table type (MyISAM) and table size and total database size.
3. Scroll down further in right frame and you'll see a few functions such as

- a text area box titled "Run SQL query/queries on database YOURDATABASENAME"
- 'Or Location of the textfile' with the Browse and GO button
- View dump (schema) of database which lists the table names in the database in a box and to the right of the box is a few functions labeled as, 'Structure only', 'Structure and data' and 'Data only'
- below these labels are check boxes with one of them closest to the GO button being, 'Save as file'
- also notice the Save as file zipped checkbox

4. to backup database, check the 'Structure and data' check box and tick the 'Save as file' option and also tick the as 'zipped' option and then hit the GO button, you'll be prompted to download a *.sql file which contains a backup of your database data and table structure. Remember to save the *.sql file to a folder on your pc and remember that location for import/restore purposes.

5. To reimport these to an EMPTY database, you need upload the zipped file and extract it so the .sql file is available and get your new web host to import the sql file for you via shell

OR

using phpmyadmin to reimport these to an EMPTY database, you
- create a new empty database
- in phpmyadmin click the empty database name in left frame until you see the right frame change with the options and fields I mentioned above
- Go to the 'Or Location of the textfile' section, click the Browse button and locate the *.sql file you want to restore for from Step 4 above.
- Then with the path/location of the *.sql file entered, click the GO button and wait for the backup to be restored.

i did not find the "zipped checkbox" , anyways.. it saved on my hard drive "omanserv.sql", but it's ONLY 15.6mb, NOT 16.1mb.

But i still don't get it.. if i already have ALL my database there, why shall i back it up and re-import it??? I just need to get my forum running.

SHall i deleete ALL my vB files, and re-install 2.2.4 the original i had. Then i INSTALL new copy?? Then maybe the database will come back??

as to reimporting, it's good to know for future reference since you say you host doesn't have telnet and i thought that's what you wanted to know in the other thread

I did #1, #2, #4, and didn't work. But how do I restore my database !!!!!! MY webhosting doesn't even let me use telnet AM stuck just because of that. I already backuped database before i did anything on 2.2.4, and have the *.sql file.. but dunno how to restore without telnet. please help
???

so do you want to start all over again from scratch ? or do you have a prior 2.2.4 backup sql file (earlier than the current one you just did ?) that you want to restore and then upgrade to 2.2.5 ?

You see, i need to UNLOCK this silly thingee which i made "OmanServ forum's database is getting backed up, and a newer version of vBulletin is being installed. Please visit us in 10 minutes."

And it keeps saying WRONG PASSWORD !!! when i tried putting new admin ! and used that password , it says WRONG password too ! Database shows that everything is there, so why would it say wrong password?? config is right too....

1. reupload all vb 2.2.5 php files in ASCII mode in ftp including ones in /admin and /mod directories and overwrite the existing ones you have (or back them up if you have customised/hacked thoses ones prior to overwriting)

2. if that doesn't work, did it work in 2.2.4 ?

Sat 18th May '02, 5:42pm
so you want me to delete all current files in root/forum and re-upload new 2.2.4 again ? and do install.php ?

Becuase before, i overwritten all files with 2.2.4, then 2.2.5, and didn't work, it still has the LOCK feature on. and wrong password.

i know one thing, i've kept deleting, uploading, deleting, uploading, all those vB files in and out. Till i got in. It works perfect now. Template got corrupted and design of forum was not working. So i installed a new vB style, then uninstalled it, then put my old one back. And everything now is working good. I guess am really lucky ha?

Eva2000, Great instructions on using phpmyadmin and all of that works great for me except when i go to restore the file using phpmyadmin. My computer locks up while waiting for the .sql file to be restored, the browser quits responding and this is a small database. There is nothing on my board yet, im just trying to make sure i know how to do good backups before I attempt to get it going. Any ideas on why my machine hangs at this point. My host told me that if the file was larger than 2megs i would have to ftp for them to install into the database. But my file is only 540k. Any help would be appreciated.

Im not sure what is timing out, but I do know that my computer locks up too. My mouse will stop responding. I have even tried Netscape with the same results. But i guess ill let the host restore the dump for me if i ever need it. Just hate waiting for someone else to do something for me. Its my own fault for choosing this host with out looking closer. :)

Thank eva2000

looks like you either have an sql file too big to use phpmyadmin to import and need to use telnet/shell to import it or your sql file you backed up isn't complete

How big are your backup files? My host told me that i couldnt restore a backup.sql file thru phpadmin if it was over 2megs. What i do is setup a testboard to test all of my backups with.
