a feature that allows you to install your old forum backup without using telnet

i'm no expert but... i don't think this would work. vbulletin requires a database to run. if you are restoring a backup it's likely you don't currently have a working vB database. no database = no vBulletin = no access to such a feature if it existed

Jake is right, if you needed to restore your database you would need to access the Admin CP, but if you need to restore the database, you can't access the Admin CP.

i mean like put all the stuff from the backup into the database by the admin cp,

As tubedogg said, the Admin CP accesses th db and you cannot restore the db if it's open and being accessed.

By the way, there's a new database backup and restore feature for people running the latest version of CPanel 4. I just tested it with an 88 Mb database and it performed the backup and restore flawlessly. I was pretty impressed.

Well it worked but its not as nice and saving it to the servers spare drive kinda involves a bit more effort than usual actually having to download it. Though ntl's 1mb service is good :D

I am glad to see this worked with the Cpanel backup. I questioned my host on this and they were skeptical on trusting this system.

Trust is another matter. As I said I tested in on an 88 Mb database and it worked fine. However if you have access to shell via telnet or ssh, then I'd definitely recommend doing your backups this way. However this is one option for those people who are on hosts that don't allow shell access.

well might be nice to put an extra file in the extra folder wher eyou type in your username / pass / ect and choose 'browse' and restore your backup, that posible?

and also, what if you want to upload your old backup via admincp, like if a bunch of posts were deleted, ect? and the board still works fine

or do what I did, keep bugging the admin to make him give you it :D

my plan doesn't let me have SSH, but after about the 100th time asking for it, he gave me it free of charge :)

You cannot restore a normal backup with the cpanel backup feature, it must be named username_dbname.gz

The database needs to exist before restoring and the dump needs to be gzip'ed....
