nice but look pretty simple, i would think links 2.0 would be better.
I am taking the plunge and going for links sql when i can get the flipping cgi module installed to access mysql. Just trying not to think of the price :)

you are :) i already have Links non-SQL version instaled on my server for one site so i am looking for a non-cgi solution... how much again is Links SQL ?

$450. I am feeling dazed as i litteraly just submitted the order.
Still it is worth it i think. The features are the best of any links script avaliable. It is a shame it is no php i agree but still nothing even comes close to it. The editor functions (like your own dmoz.com) are what i need esecially but there is just so much to it.
On top of that amazing support. The guy who runs it just been on my server helping me install a cgi module to get it to work, excellent service and the forums have really good people answering almost anything.
It is definitely the one to go for if you want a big directory i think, and I am planning on a big one :)

the next moment of fun is going to be try and link linksql and vbulletin together. For some unkown reason all the big links sql users like wwwthreads (aghh) so are making mods for that and not for vbulletin. Hopefully i will find a way though!

US$450  that's 1 month server payments for me !!
i don't plan on having anything big, just something to manage all these link exchange requests i get... maybe i'll end up install Links 2 non-MySQL after all.

nope not me but an affiliate site of mine
http://www.anipike.com - Yahoo of Anime directories
http://www.animepitstop.com - another affiliate
http://www.animelinks.com
http://www.animespider.com
http://www.i-anime.com
i promised my friend pittie, who runs the animepitstop site, that i won't compete with him - although could come close if i tried :)
just reminded me to submit a site to anipike - they only open 600 submission per week on a Monday (always miss the opening :( )

anipike, how bizarre. It is a messy directory with static pages, i prefere the other one. I see a links 2.0/sql directory and think.. arr i like this and will use it much like a vbulletin forum.

yep, anipike back in May 2000 got around 5 million pageviews/month probably twice that now
animespider.com was custom written programming by the owner..
animelinks.com is Links 2.0 probably SQL
animepitstop - is custom programming as well.
i wonder if for US$450 you could get a custom written script ?

i wonder if for US$450 you could get a custom written script ?Comprable to what? My guess is that's about 7-8 hours of programming.
Hey, if you want something custom, feel free to drop me a line :) I'm quite flexible.

I am sure you could but then links sql is likely to do everything you want a link script to do and more i would think.
All these sites are a mess :) Animespider is a very low features links directory with very little to it. The sort by A B C D E F seems far more confusing than useful, every other feature i can see is in links 2.0
animelinks is using the deafult version of links2.0 which is not great. The problem with links2.0 is that you really need to add lots and lots of mods to get it really good with lots of cool features.
Animepitstop looks the best but then a very basic script setup, links 2.0 default with some of the options taken off. They waster their time if they custom wrote it, talk about re-inventing the wheel.
In the end the php scripts avaliable do as much as what these sites have. Go for links 2.0 if you want custom reviews (if you can ever get hold of review.cgi by Jerry Su) and other cool features. If you want even more then links sql looks like it. It is no longer just v 2.0 with a SQL backend but a completly new scripts (called Links SQL Next Generation) with lots of new features, including co-branded templates (so can dish those out like we can with vbulletin), dmoz editor capabilities (essential for say a 5,000 site directory) and loads more. Also has a new "plugin" system which makes adding mods very easy i think.
What do you want your script to do is really the question.

anyway, i can let you play around with link sql on my server once i get my license so you can see how it works. It is still in alpha coming into beta i will add (but they give almost daily updates and daily alpahs to play with.... :) )

[/B] well not for a links script yet... as i said it's only for link exchange management request... but maybe looking at other scripting... trying to find a poll offering script like http://www.trxx.co.uk/products/pollworld.html but in php/mysql
it's for http://www.animepolls.com :D
sort of an anime version of pollit.com :)

no not yet, no demo although they are going to put one up soon. They keep on changing the code (every day) and as a demo takes a lot of work to create (remove all the things that cause the server to build pages, delete the database etc) they are going to wait until it is finished.
