How can I change the mysql setting?

Dear all,

Can anyone tell me how can I change the mysql setting? I would like to change the key_buffer number. But I just don't which command should I type.

I also tired to looking for my.cnf file, but I can't find this in my server.

My server is running with mysql3.22.32(rpm version).

Is there anything if I miss the my.cnf file?
