View Full Version : Should I wait until v2.0 before I buy?

I want to purchase vBulletin but wondered if I should postpone my purchase until v2.0 arrives.

Questions:

1. If I buy the existing version now, do I get a free upgrade to v2.0 or will I have to pay an additional fee?

2. If I install the existing version now, is it difficult to upgrade to v2.0 when it arrives? In other words, is it just a case uploading a couple of scripts or is it quite time consuming?

Thanks,

Jon

Jon, your purchase or lease of the VB software is good either forever or an entire year respectively. This means that updates to the software are good for that time frame. One would hope that we'd see v. 2.0 within the month...but certainly by early 2001.

Upgrades are quite easy. You back up your database for safety purposes, upload the scripts right over the old ones and run the upgrade script. When that's done, you delete the upgrade script and you're done!

Hope this helps,

Almost right, the full purchase gets you updates for 1 year, after that you have to pay a small fee.

The difference is that after a year you are still allowed to use the software, though without updates, this is not permitted with the lease option.

As long as you don't change the 1.1.4 copy from the standard code upgrade should be straight forward, I assume!
