You need to talk to Ed/Mike as it is his hack..

Hi Ed, my server has php3 and the files for the PM hack are .php so can I use it or not?
I also wanted to know how much space would this take up on the server if everyone is starting to use PM? Do you usaully erase the messages after a certain given time?

Replace .php with .php3 in all the files and makeprivtables.php.
If it takes up to much space, you can just turn it off. If you want to clear out messages regularly, it's not too hard. Plus you can set message quotas.

So I can just right click on a file and rename it?
Also to which directory should I upload it to?

Oh boy, who is gonna install the new version for me, I just paid for Vbulletin a week ago $65 dollars for the installation of 1.1.4. :(
Would I lose any customaztion I have made with the new version 2.0?

customization, if you mean hacks yes. Templates are recoverable but you will have to manually add bits to it (i think).

Installing it will be real easy i am sure though, people here will help you out.

a) it'll be 100% ready in a week
b) that anyone would want to run a production board on it the day it "comes out"

good point. Especially number 2 although i hope not in number 1. Another delay would be bad.

Yes.

This isn't brain surgery - you can mess up and try again.
