one of our associates wants to set up a forum on our board that is very general and basic, where to post you are not required to register, you can just type a name and then submit your post. for people stopping by the board and wanting to contribute something immediately rather than go through the full sign-up process, this could really be beneficial. naturally, if individuals are already registerd on the system, they can still post.

has anybody else achieved this yet? and if so, how/what do i have to do?

In your Options part of the control panel you must set it to "RequireRegistration" = No.

Then in the Permissions section you must change the permissions for the Guest group so that they can't post in the forums that are restricted.

We have the latest version of VBulletin and want to do the same thing. Allow unregistered users to post to one forum but require registration to the other forum. I cannt see an option called 'Requireregistration' under options. there is 'Allowregistration' but this implies locking everyone out of all the forums to me. Is this the same thing?
Do I have to set up a separate user group of some sort?
The unregistered users dont even want to see a 'register' prompt of any sort. ie carte Blanche for that forum only!

Hope you can help?...

For that forum only you would go to the Permissions section.
Click "Modify Forums".
Go down to the user group "Unregistered/Not Logged In"
click on "add forumpermission".
Choose the forum you want them to be able to post in
set the permissions accordingly.
Save
Repeat for each forum you wish to set this for.

Thnx Wluke. I think Ive done this but...
being of a pedantic frame of mind..
1. I use the control panel /admin/index.php to modify things and under there I can see Forums with submenu picks of Add,Modify,Order and Moderators.
2. Clicking on Modify allows me to edit the Forum attributes but NOT to go to - Go down to the user group "Unregistered/Not Logged In" ...
3. so I gave up on that and simply went to: User Groups and Permissions, sub menu Modify, and then to the unregistered/not logged in / edit option where I duly chose the forum and set the permissions.

Please confirm this is correct and if possible explian why I have different paths to getting to these options?

My version is:
vBulletin Control Panel (Version 1.1.4)
