I have checked the directory /etc/ byt I have no my.cnf file there ? I've ftp'd in and telneted and there is no my.cnf file? thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi there, yes Eva is correct, if you don't already have a my.cnf file in your /etc directory, you can just create on with the settings you need. If you let me know a little bit about your server and what kind of traffic your MySQL database gets, I could create one for you with the values I would recommend using.
