I have tried to install MySQL and needless to say I have had not one inch of success.

I have followed the install instructions from mysql's site and still can not get a thing going :(

Any help is appreciated.

If you could help me please email me. I do not want to screw anything else up on my server.

Hi John-

Are you trying to install a binary release (RPMs) or trying to compile from source? I would recommend the source option, even though it may seem a little overwelming at first, it's actually not too difficult. I would recommend following these instructions step by step: http://www.webmasterbase.com/article.php?aid=228&pid=44

If you still run into problems or have any questions, feel free to ask away.

ok got it installed, but one little hitch. I am wanting to change the mysql_daemon_user setting in the mysql.server script to refer to the user I created. Well I opened it up to edit and the mysql_daemon_user is not in there. if I have to add it where would I add this?

I can email you the script if you need.

Thanks for the help so far!!

Ok duhhhhh I got it.

Please ignore my last posting.

Ihave a new question. I have read over the post http://209.207.250.149/forum/showthread.php?threadid=3114

You ask in that post to Eva to look for a dir /usr/sbin/apxs I do not have that in my directory. I just want to know what i should use now? What i should do to install PHP4 now instead of this line:

# ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/php --with-config-file-path=/usr/local/php --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --enable-track-vars --enable-magic-quotes --enable-debugger

I have Apache version 1.3.12

Thanks in advance again :)

John-

The apxs program is part of the Apache Development kit, which it looks like is not installed on your system. You can download the RPM right here: http://www.redhat.com/swr/i386/apache-devel-1.3.12-25.i386_dl.html

The problem is that I have tried to DL that from Red Hats site and I am getting page can not be displayed message. I did try this out this morning around 2 am and agian just a few seconds before this post. I have tried a mirror site with the same bad luck. Have any suggestions?

I need to get my board offof the shared server and over to the dedicated one. I am just running into too many problems. :( Looks like I may have to locate another Dedicated server host. I have had nothing but problems and frustrations with CT.

If you know of another link with that RPM please let me know. I will DL it and get it installed on my server.

Thanks man,

Yes the FTP server at RedHat is almost never available. I would try the SourceForge mirrors over at: ftp://download.sourceforge.net/pub/mirrors/redhat/redhat/redhat-6.2/i386/RedHat/RPMS/
