That's actually a good idea although I thought they already had this feature (I never even bothered making the private forums viewable or accessible by non-moderators). Any extra security measures would be much appreciated! :)

Yes you can make a forum private. I recently purchased my board and have done this for my site. you can do this right through you control panel. It will ask you if you would like to require registration and click yes

TO make a forum private you can do it in a couple of ways. Each has its benefits and its minuses.

1. When you create the forum, mark it as a private forum and only ADmin's and Moderators can see it.

Minus - Any non-moderator given permission to this forum automatically becomes a moderator.

2. Groups. You can control and restrict access to the forums by the different groups as well as creating your own groups. Look under Permissions for the different options available.

Minus - Going this route makes your permissions table fairly messy but it works.

Also look in your options in the control panel and you can make your private forums (Admin/Moderator Only option) completely invisible so only those with permission to enter them can view them.
