View Full Version : Interland ?

Having been shat on by Futurequest, i'm in the market for a new host again... not much time to get organised now :( so I need your help. I've been looking at site5.com but they offer far too much for far too little (and don't respond quick enough to my email for my liking) and interland.com
Does anyone here have any experience with Interland ? They seem to be OK, but they don't offer a lot of information on their site. Obviously i'm looking for MySQL/PHP for vBulletin :) as well as a *sensible* amount of CGI use permitted - which is what lets FQ down. Good support is essential, as is good uptime and download speed.
Thoughts please, folks. Oh, it'll be the Feature Plus plan i'll be going for if they're OK...

Craig, my dedicated server is thru interland and I have to go thru the regular tech support system there to get to dedicated support.
The regular tech support is always quick to answer and help me as much as they can.
My only disappointment with interland is that my download speed seems to be a *tad* slower than where I have my hosted sites at now.

I have a dedicated server with them as well, and there bandwidth and pipes are good, along with there hardware. They have very little *support* for there dedicated side of things, they seem to have a lot more NT specialists. It seems as though they have been getting a little better with time, so that is good:)

Thanks guys, but i've been led to believe that their hosting plans are a disaster - see http://www.webmaster-forums.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/000316.html grrrr...!

Craig,
if you want I can make you an FTP account or something on my Site5 host and you can play around in it and see how you like it...
Site5 offers allot and I'm happy with them...

I'm with FQ now, and am relatively happy with them. I have noticed that my site has been slowing down a LOT recently. Also, they give you next to nothing for what you pay. I'm looking at dedicated solutions now, mainly because I'm sick of paying $25 every time I want to have an IRM or a subdomain. Or I use more than the 75 megs of storage space...
All I know about interland, is that some of the sites that I visit that are hosted by them are slow as hell. Even the main interland.com page is seemingly slow. Site5.com seems to offer a lot; but as you said, they seem to offer too much for the price.
There was one host I was looking at that gave you "virtual" dedicated server; it was shared, but only by about 5 or 6 sites, and they gave you full control over your part. This was a lot cheaper than fully dedicated servers.
I'm up in the air, but all I know is that sometimes my site crawls, and most of my visitors are on AOL type accounts, so that is a bad thing in terms of speed.

Mafukie,
Thanks for the offer. I was going to give site5.com another go, as they emailed me and apologised for the delay - they said they'd not received the message until I resent it. They did take the effort to go into my questions in reasonable detail, so that swayed me back towards them. However, they've failed to respond to me again today for close to 24hrs, so their at the end of the list again.. :(
JimF (why not Jimbo ?!),
Do you have details of that 'shared dedicated' deal ? Sounds interesting... :) I'm really tiring of not being able to find a decent host for my site. It's getting that desperate that i'm thinking of leaving it on Virtualis and forgetting about vBulletin :( grrr...

Why not jimbo? I re-registered when the newest version stopped storing my cookie, in hopes that a new account would do it. I did that w/ Netscape, so that is the name that gets used.
I've been searching through my History Folder, and can't find the name of the host anywhere. It was fairly recently, though. I think I found them by a post that TeRRa made on the AOTO forums, like within the past week or so, but i couldn't find it. If I do, I'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks Jimbo - if you find it, let us know.
In the meantime, i've made an executive decision... :) Seeing as no single host seems capable of satisfying every requirement, I reckon I should just go for the cheapest and see what happens...! site5.com here we come :)

I still can't find it Craig, I apologize. Let me know how you like site5; and I'd love to test out the speed of your board once you get all set up on them.

Any idea how long I should wait for an account ? I signed up 36 hours ago, and haven't heard from them since :( Every other account has been set up instantaneously...
