View Full Version : Am I being too april foolish?

I decided to go all april fools on my members, but am worried if I have been a bit too... real for them to know the difference. If someone could evaluate (no, you don't have to register, this isn't some ploy to get you on my site) if you think that this sounds a bit too wild?

First, I posted this: http://www.coderforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=224

Then, I posted this (as a new username-Becky-Sue):

http://www.coderforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=225

It contains a few vulgar words, so don't say I didn't warn you.

lol

I suppose I should come up with something...maybe having Tubescan (a Real World/Road Rules fansite) being bought out by MTV? that might work :D

I don't know about your Board and your members, but if you are having seconds thoughts then this might be an indication that you've gone too far.

I've added FireFly's {bbusername} hack and am going to post a 'complaint' letter generated by this site:

I toned mine down a bit, removed some of the foul language and removed Becky's rules. So now the only post is that of my sister, Brenda.

Nafae, it might be more convincing if you weren't on the Online Users list. ;)

What this is is an automated complaint generator. I've used this before with predictably funny results. The complaints it generates are full of so much babble and jargin that people get easily taken in by it.

Now I'll just sit back and watch the reaction from my Members! :D

And Jake- it's all true you know! ;)

Our site is having a little makeover for April Fools day. I was pleasantly impressed to see our home page go all Lord of the Rings (http://fictionalley.org). All I knew about was Firefly's bbusername replacement since that was my effort.

To top it off, our site is being parodied by the "competition" today (http://www.sugarquill.net/). Silly kids.

I'm not doing an April Fools joke anymore. I learned my lesson last year. I posted saying that Murmurs was going down because I was tired of REM and doing the site.

Bad mistake! I quickly realized that April Fools day is not an international holiday. I had calls, 500 or so e-mails, etc. The band even got worried before they realized the date.

So this year, no april fools day.

We told our member we are becoming the official german StarTrek Forum as there isn't any at the moment.
But at the moment they don't like the idea :D

[all in german] ...

They don't like it because we told them everything will be different...smaller and more rules! :D:D:D

hehe...

I did a parody story, and used it to tease a bit some people in REM :)

Heh....

A few magazines called the band's office to get comment on my april fools story.

I can't believe ANYONE would think that story was true.
