Hello,

I need to buy any BB software very soon and I'm considering UBB or vbulletin.
What I concern on vbulletin is that I need to pay US$40 for one of mySQL databease(20Mb).
I'm not a software guy and I don't think our forum will have heavy traffic.
I would like to know whether I need to buy more than 1 mySQL database for my BB forum.(It will have 3 categories and each category will have 2 or 3 forums.)
Thank you in advance.

You only need one database for Vbulletin.

20MB should get you around 30,000 posts I am guessing. :)

Do I need a special skill to setup mySQL properly or optimize?
Thank you very much for your help.

UBB -

Pluses
Very good support. Very good.

Bad
Lack of new features and snobby moderators.

vB -

Pluses
Very good hacks and new features

Bad
Support by vB staff is non-existent, PERIOD.

Nope, just upload the scripts, set your database information in the config file, then run the installation script. This will create and populate the database and you're all set :)

Yeah, this is about the easiest script I have ever seen to install. Much easier than the UBB even!

yup it is so easy anyone can do it. You files to edit, no /usr/bin/perl lines to change no paths to set, all done for you. If you are not going to have a huge board and your host is going to charge an extra $40/month i would get a different one - that sounds far to expensive. If it is a $40 set up fee then maybe that is ok.

Hi,

Because we didn't expect to buy a VB so we didn't consider mySQL thus we made a contract one hosting company.
When I realized that we better use VB, I asked price for SQL and it is 40$/year for 1 DB (20MB).
Maybe I need to move another server which provides free or cheap DB. Hope that VB can offer more easier way to migrate DB.
Anyway, I just bought VB and I installed in http://www.f2s.com free server for trial because I'm still waithng for mySQL DB from hosting company. I think I will like VB. :D
Thank you everbody for your support.
