View Full Version : postid display bug?
Nutcase

I just installed vB and after running the routines to set it up, went to the latest scripts.
Everything seems to be working, but for some reason, after I reply to a thread, I get a redirect... but it redirects to showthread.php?postid rather than showthread.php?threadid - I think it is supposed to do that, but that page never shows up...
showthread.php?postid=4 gives a "page cannot be displayed" error.
I know there are 4 posts. Any fixes for this? I would like replying to a thread to work right. :)
Thanks in advance

When I post on my forum, I get redirected to showthread.php?postid=x too.
For example, I post a reply to http://www.were-here.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=12937, I then get redirected to http://www.were-here.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=54776#post54776. As you can see, the postid is relative to the number of posts in the forum, not the number of posts in the thread. Not sure, why you get an error though. :)

It's actually REALLY bad. I get a dns or page not found error, then i can't access that thread again via the user interface. I have to prune with my username, and remove that post to make the thread work again. Its weird.
Someone please help! :(

If there is anyone who would be willing to help me out with this bug, I will be around all day. This is really a big issue with the board (obviously) and I would like to get it resolved soon..
Email me at nutcase@begroovy.com or catch me on icq at 10120025 if you can help...
Thanks.

Let me guess -- you're using IE? The DNS error has nothing to do with the Bulletin Board or the script...

I know it isn't actually a DNS error. That is just the stupid IE page I am getting. But I have tried it in other browsers too... Mozilla can't handle it either. In mozilla, the redirect just stops. I view source, and it is empty.
It seems like the script doesnt return ANYTHING for the showthread.php?postid=xxx thing. Just a blank page. Which causes the error in IE.
If anyone can help make it work, I would really appreciate it. Other than this (rather large) bug, vB is great. It looks good, easy to configure and use, and is really impressive. I just wish people could reply. :(

I just reinstalled vB and cleared the whole database, thinking I may have broken something.
Based on a clean install, I have discoverd that I can create a new thread, reply to it once without any issues, but if I reply to the same thread a second time, i get the bug.
I checked flooding, and it is turned off. Is there some feature to prevent the same user from posting 3 messages in a row? I doubt it...
Anyway... HELP!!!

Nutcase,
Do you think that you could post some info about your server, including webserver software and version, PHP version, MySQL version, etc.
Also, which browser(s) are you using?
Thanks,
John

We are running apache 1.3 on some linux distro (not sure - Slackware I think).
php is version PHP/4.0b4pl1
mysql is version 10.0 distrib 3.23.10-alpha, for pc-linux-gnu (i686)
I have tried with both mozilla (m14 or m15 i think) and IE 5.0x (the newest)
I have more information, but I am developing this forum on a seperate server, and I want the address to be private. If you email me, or icq me at 10120025, I would be glad to give you any information you need.
Thanks!

A little more info as phrased by the server guy:
Apache 1.3.12
PHP4 RC2
Mysql 3.23.10
Probably what I just said, but that's his words.

Ok... so I just got another server for vbulletin at site5.com - they have been amazing at helping me out so far, and I really reccomend them. Except for the fact that vBulletin has the same problem there it did on the old server.
It just wont let replies work.
There must be a huge bug somewhere in that portion of the code that just wont work with PHP4+Zend (which both servers have)
Or else I am just really doing something wrong. :(
Help?

Any thoughts on this? Anyone had success on site5? Maybe some bugs were found in the vB code? Something?
This is really a huge issue for me.. I really need to get it resolved soon...

I will be around from 3pm-late friday, then all day saturday and sunday. I am in EST, so you can time it from there. However, if you name a time, I will be there, even if it means setting an alarm for 4am.
I really appreciate all your help.
As far as thanking me for patience, I really havent been all that patient have I? :P
I am just really anxious to get it working. It is so damn cool, and I want mine to be cool too! :)

Hi.
My name is Matt Lightner. I work for Site5.com (Nutcase's webhost).
Some info that might be of help:
We are also experiencing the same problem at this URL:
http://www.hystersisters.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=781
NOTE: You can replace the threadid and you will still get the same error.
Just to be sure that it wasn't the PHP version, we installed PHP4 RC2 today, and have had no better luck getting the forums to work.
Also, if you sit there and hit refresh, the page will *sometimes* load. I find this rather hard to troubleshoot, since the problem is not 100% consistent.
We are running Apache 1.3.12 with PHP4 RC2 + Zend.
Feel free to email or ICQ me if you have any questions!
Best Regards,
Matt Lightner
