Hi I noticed for sometime occassionally there'll be this huge spike in system load (seen via TOP command) and the entire list of processes that is shown via TOP will have only httpd processes.

My question is , what is causing the entire list to show only these huge # of httpd processes?

Is there some external attack that causes this spike?

thanks.
