View Full Version : Trying to import database [telnet newbie]

I run 2.2.0 and i decided i want to upgrade a FRESH 2.2.4
I was wondering how to import my sql file through telnet i know the url to the tutorial but i cant even get to step 1
I tried in telnet
typing
o myhostname.net [21]
and it says its activly refused! how am i supposed to put in my username and password thatway?
any help will be appreciated!

What telnet application are you using? And more importantly, how are you using it?

Are you sure your host supports Shell (Telnet/SSH) access to your server??

I click on START, click RUN and type in telnet!
isnt that right?

Supposedly you are running Windows. I have no idea what applications you have on your computer.
What happens EXACTLY after you do this?

I open telnet and type
"o blahblahmyinfo.com [21]"
or "o ftp blahblahmyinfo.com [21]"
and then it says Connecting to Ftp...
then it says "Could not open connection to the host, on port host2*.blahblah.com. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

It sounds like your host doesn't allow telnet. Have you tried asking them?

I'll ask and get back to u.....if my host dosent is there any other way to import it?

apparently they dont support telnet...but they gave me a shell account
I am hosted by hostrocket
is the coding still the same to upload my database?

Yes it is the same in telnet and SSH.

they gave me this program called putty

Putty is an SSH progrram.
