How does this method compare with UBB when it comes to (espensive) disk space ?

I'll create a new forum in a mo.

This should use about 1/2 to 1/3 of the disk space of UBB. UBB stores all the posts 2 or 3 times, whereas vBulletin only has one copy of the post. As an overall idea, each post will probably take about 1kb, including overheads. That means 1000 posts will take about 1mb.

I'm beginning to love this forum more and more each time I stop by :) It's kind of like deja vu - just the same as the way I was impressed by 'that other forum' when I first discovered that. Hopefully this one will not fall behind in the development stakes though ? ;)

Just to qualify those claims on disk space a bit more. Numbers from the VB-World forums (http://forums.vb-world.net/).

Before we imported, we had about 30000 posts and 6000 members. The posts took up 223827 kbytes and the members files took up 7530 kbytes.

The forums at the moment, with 45000 posts and 7500 members take up 46072 kbytes.

That's about 1/5 of the size of the UBB. Quite impressive.
