View Full Version : vBulletin 3.0 Timeline

I was just wondering if the developers could give us a rough timeline of when we may see 3.0 coming out? I hate asking a question like this because then it puts software developers into a precarious position, but the only reason I ask is that I just upgraded to 2.2.3 and rather than installing hacks all over again (a couple of which are pretty involved), I figured if 3.0 was coming out soon, I wouldn't bother with re-hacking or if it isn't going to be out for quite some time then I'll go ahead and re-hack.
I'm not looking for a specific date.....just anything in weeks....months? Anything...

I'm guessing (but remember this is purely a guess based on what has been done so far and what still needs to be done) that you may see a beta in mid-late April or early May. But as I said that's just a guess ;)

Right now the time line looks like:
Someday after tomorrow - Possibly open the development site to customers for Alpha/Beta testing.
After that release a public beta.
Release a few betas approximately 2 weeks apart (could change though)
Release final version.
Release documentation and importers if needed.

Will the beta be available to current customers, or just for internal testing?

There will be a public beta available to customers at some stage.

I'm sorry but I'm terrible in english ;)
What means "at some stage"? It would be really good to have a beta so I could reprogram my forumhosting system and have it working when vB 3 is out...

he meant, at some time during the whole process of making vB3, there will be a time when they release a beta testing for current customers using vB.

That's right :) I said 'at some stage' because we don't know when but it will happen.

I am looking forward to vBulletin 3.0, beta or not ;). With all that has been said and the list of features that *could* be in it, it looks very promising.
I did see a post about beta.jelsoft.com being open, but when I went it was not open to members (is it really not open, I think it was Freddie that made the post regarding it).
Anyone care to clerify this for me, just wondering if I missed something (which is very much possible, I seem to miss a lot of things).
There is only one other question that I have for you (The developers of vBulletin), will there be a new look for vBulletin or will it remain as it is (the default look that you see now)? I would just like to know if anyone is willing to shed some light on this.
Thanks and keep up the good work,
SaintDog

What he said was that it could be opened up to people later this month.

Oh ok, that works for me, if not, I will continue to wait patiently :).
Thanks,

Anyone care to put a wager on how many times those two lines will be repeated? Dibs for once. ;)

will any person who has vB be allowed to have the beta, or is it only limited to x users which you pick?

I think I read it as it will be open to all existing customers.
