I love the vbulletin but as far as someone with little experience in this upgrading process it stinks.
It is too deep for most people.
It is hard to believe with all these experts here that none steps up and does these upgrades for people who would pay for the help.
It is hard to believe.
Anyone want to do an upgrade??

it seems to me that a lot of you don't read the Announcements Forum, so, i will quote John :)
Upgrade instructions:
From 1.1.x: and 2.0.3 or before:
Please email me at john@vbulletin.com for full information. Please be sure to include your vBulletin customer number and password, and the URL of the forum you are upgrading.
From 2.2.0
Upload all the files except install.php, then load up the following web pages:
http://your.site/forums/admin/upgrade14.php
http://your.site/forums/admin/upgrade15.php
http://your.site/forums/admin/upgrade16.php
When you are done, be sure to delete all the upgradex.php scripts.

I have that information already.
It still does not tell the average person how to get it done.
Looks easy for some that do it often but not for someone who has never doen it or almost lost all his board when trying!
Maybe I can tell you how to put a race motor together?
Just put in the crank. then the rods/pistons,then the heads, then the intake etc. Easy right!
Does not really tell you how to do it as first you need to do all the things to the prep the crank.rods, heads, etc through out the entire process to do it right.
The above is an analogy to what I am trying to get accross.
There is a little more detail needed here thats all.
Think beyond the point that not everyone here knows everything that you all do.

oh i c
that's why i love google :D
so, since you find it too hard to understand, perhaps you should suggest another upgrade method then  something like upgrade it yourself huh?
What if someone finds M$ too hard to install or upgrade?
will they complain to Microsoft?
I don't think so, they will probably say RTFM

How do you get to be a senior member with a reply like that?
I am just asking you pros for some steps in how to do this
Thats all.
The details are always the most important.

stocker, did you do the install of your board? If so it's the same, only instead of install you run the upgrade-script(s).
If you didn't, you can access the members-area and fill in a support-ticket, maybe they'll ask you to order install-support, but you'll have to cross that bridge when you get to it.
I'm sorry if my answer seem as muddled as nuno's, frankly I've no idea if you are a legit user or not, so I won't be clear as crystal, I'll leave that for the vB-team.
Best of luck, though!

I did not do the install. Probably one of my problems here.
I own the VB at www.superstockforum.com
I just give up on the upgrade. The present version works quite well anyway.
Thanks again

If you have no hacks installed, it's actually only uploading the new files and running the upgrade scripts mentioned. Just upload only those upgrade scripts u need into the admin dir of your vb. No reuploading of install.php.
Call the upgrade script from your browser...remove the file...Done.

stocker, why dont you hire someone to
do it if you cant?
If I need a new transmission - I won't
attempt to buy it and install it myself.
I would go to a mechanic.
Peeps around here work very hard
to provide the #1 forum available
for about what a mechanic charges
for a few hrs!
Be kind to your peeps.
