View Full Version : Am I too late for the V3 rat-race?

This may have been asked before, but I'm too lazy/busy/absent-minded to do a real search.. Will V3 (hopefully!) include options to use some form of frontpage (ala vbPortal?) to present a all-in-one view for easy presentations, much like your newspaper-headlines. If this was added in some way, shape or form, my crystal ball tells me you'd get far less gripes on each upgrade. The fact that people hack in such things do suggest they feel it missing, and while it may stray from the traditional idea of forum-software, it does present a nice eye-catcher.

We have been looking at the possibility of adding this as a separate module that can be plugged into vBulletin.

Now you're talking. Modules sound very nice, very nice indeed!
What must I do to tip the scale??

What about something more along the lines of "Content Islands" such as the ones in IP's OpenTopic rather than a complete CMS Portal. The ability to use <!-- edit: ssi, not css. :o --> SSI to place any one or more of vB's features such as Who's Online or Active Threads into any non-vB page of your site, I think, would be more desirable. Not having to run your site entirely (or mostly) thru vB would give you much more control over the look, feel, and usability of your site with a much greater ease (rather than incorporating your site into vB's CMS, incorporating the CMS [or each individual feature or "Content Island" desired] into your site). Plus, your site wouldn't be stuck with that "portal look" which, IMHO, can start to get a little redundant after a while (without the hours of template customization of course).
I don't know how I'd feel about having vBulletin "Powering [my] whole Website." I like having control over my site and how it's ran and would rather have myself "powering" my whole (or most of my whole) Website. But that's just my opinion of course. :)
Make since?

You cannot use CSS alone to put content anywhere...you'd need (at the least) JavaScript.
